Professional Practice Office

Position Description:

The Professional Practice Office is currently recruiting a full-time permanent Director of Nursing. Reporting to the Vice President Clinical Care and Chief Nurse Executive, in this role you will lead a culture of excellence in Nursing. In this role you will provide leadership, coaching and mentoring for all nursing staff at CAMH. The Director of Nursing will ensure alignment of clinical nursing practice with organization-wide and program-specific clinical, educational, and research priorities; evidence-based best practice guidelines, and the CAMH vision and strategic directions. You will represent the Professional Practice Office (PPO) working collaboratively with leadership, both clinical and nonclinical through CAMH, the leadership team within PPO including discipline chiefs and Education; other colleagues at CAMH and academic partners to nurture and foster nursing practice, academic excellence and scholarship. This role will, with the CNE, represent Practice and lead on projects, practice, corporate, and clinical work committees relating to nurses and nursing practice. You will lead and oversee specific professional practice initiatives, and develop new initiatives designed to support nursing quality standards and excellence in care. You will develop and submit proposals for internal / external funding and be accountable for leading practice-based scholarly activities within CAMH. You will lead knowledge translation and integration of research in professional practice and provide leadership in initiative evaluation and promote evidence based decision making. As a nurse leader who is collaborative, the incumbent will possess a proven track record of mentoring and developing nursing staff and culture change. The role will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess a Masters in Nursing, with a PhD being preferred, and will be registered with and a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. You will 2 years’ experience as a Director Nursing of Practice, and have 8 to 10 years’ experience as a front line nurse. With 5 years of experience implementing, leading and evaluating project activities in an academic health sciences setting, you are a strategic thinker with proven track record of nurse leadership, integrity and excellence in care. Eligibility for an academic cross-appointment with the University of Toronto is required. Experience teaching at one of the CAMH affiliated academic settings is preferred. 

As a leader, you are able to visualize and create the capacity to promote academic and scholarly practice and create a culture of inquiry and innovation. Culturally competent leader with appreciation of diverse cultural groups, and the value they bring to organizations, you are experienced in working in diverse patients and stakeholders.  A superior understanding of practices and issues in a mental health and addictions health care environment is required. You have a demonstrated ability in implementing, leading and evaluating research and project activities in an academic health sciences setting. You have demonstrated experience in policy development and implement as it relates to nursing, regulatory and legislative aspects of professional practice. You will have demonstrated ability in program evaluation, to translate research findings into clinical best practice(s) and abilities in proposal writing and grant acquisition. You will have experience in strategic and practice-related project management, people leadership, financial management, continuous quality improvement activities, clinical information systems, and monitoring of key performance indicators. Your proven collaborative leadership, mentorship and change management skills, and experience as a known change agent, is complimented by excellent communication (both oral and written), sound judgement, decision making, interpersonal, problem solving, critical thinking, facilitation and presentation skills. You also possess excellent judgment, tact and diplomacy to work with diverse teams and stakeholders and understand how issues of stigma and cultural diversity impact on care delivery. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language is an asset.

Please Note: This full-time, permanent position is NOT part of any Bargaining Unit.
