Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Systemic Therapy and Community Oncology, the Registered Nurse accepts the privileges and responsibilities of authority, accountability and autonomy for patient care and professional development. The Chemotherapy Nurse will provide patient-centered nursing care for systemic treatment oncology patients (across multiple disease sites) and their families based on the values of respect, caring, innovation and accountability. Nursing Care is provided based upon competencies of direct comprehensive and supportive care, navigating the system, maintaining professional practice, and through collaborative and evidence-based nursing practice. The Chemotherapy Nurse utilizes expert knowledge of Systemic Therapy to provide initiation and safe administration of cytotoxic agents participating in the enforcement of the National Standards for Safe Administration of Cytotoxic Agents. The Chemotherapy Nurse is a facilitator for Clinical Trials and a resource for Outreach Community Clinics.

The Juravinski Cancer Centre (JCC) Chemotherapy Suite provides chemotherapy treatment to patients with cancer across all disease sites, as well as treatment to a large number of patients who are recruited to clinical trials. Approximately 150 patients are treated daily. We work closely with Pharmacy, Laboratory Services and the JCC Clinics. The Chemotherapy Suite includes our Chemotherapy Nurses, Clinic Clerks and Health Care Aides. There is also interaction with physicians, Allied Health Professionals, Customer Support Services and with other Juravinski Hospital staff in the delivery of high quality patient centered care.

Monday - Friday Days

Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
2. Recent nursing experience (within the last 2 years) administering chemotherapy and immunotherapy
3. Certification with CON(C)
4. Current successful completion of the deSouza Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course or Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certificate equivalent course required
5. Recent (within 2 years) clinical experience in the care and maintenance of Central Venous Access Devices (CVADs)
6. Competent peripheral IV insertion skills
7. Current BCLS certification with ongoing re-certification mandatory
8. Demonstrated ability to work independently
9. Demonstrated ability in patient assessment, teaching and counseling
10. Demonstrated leadership, organizational, critical thinking, interpersonal and communication skills
11. BScN an asset
