Job Summary & Requirements
The Surgical Treatment Clinic Nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for providing an optimum level of patient care in conjunction with other health care providers in accordance with R.V.H. Standards of Care.

The Surgical Treatment Clinic Nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for providing an optimum level of patient care in conjunction with other health care providers in accordance with R.V.H. Standards of Care.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain the standards of the profession as per the College of Nurses of Ontario and practice in accordance with the Policies and Procedures of Royal Victoria Regional Health Center
- Promote best practice for supporting families
- Perform all essential duties of the Registered Practical Nurse in the ambulatory clinic setting including assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, and documentation of care where predictable outcomes are anticipated
- Administer medications
- Participate in patient education to promote positive outcomes
- Must be willing to participate in continuing educational activities to maintain and advance competency and experience in ambulatory care.
- Participate in daily safety briefings to promote a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Current College of Nurses certificate of competence
- Current BLS essential
- OR Course Module 1 (Perioperative Nursing) essential
- Wound care/ostomy education an asset
- Perianesthesia course an asset
- Minimum 2-3 years current ambulatory care essential
- Surgical nursing experience asset
- OR experience an asset
- Wound care and ostomy experience an asset
- Pediatric experience an asset
- Experience with health teaching an asset
- Experience working in an autonomous, circulating RPN role with a requirement to manage multiple priorities and maintain a diverse skill set (e.g. Pre and Post-Surgical, Outpatient clinic services) preferred
- Demonstrate ability to maintain confidentiality
- Demonstrate understanding of scope of practice within the CNO three factor framework
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrate critical thinking and effective multitasking skills
- Demonstrate commitment to the professional growth and development of self and others.
- Must be able to perform all essential duties of position description which includes the ability to lift and move patients, pushing, pulling, bending and stooping.
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a challenging, fast paced environment as part of an interdisciplinary team member
- Flexibility to accommodate changing assignments and workloads
