Position Summary
The RNFA demonstrates professional development and clinical competency; utilizes the nursing process to assess plan, implement and evaluate patient care; addresses health educational needs for patients and families, and other health care providers; manages patient care assignments as well as other organizational tasks related to patient unit operations and acts in a clinical leadership role in the coordination of patient care for all assigned patients. MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited college/ university nursing program
- Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Accredited RNFA course with experience in the role within the last 2 years
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Laser certification
- Certification in delegated controlled acts
- Current CNA Perioperative Nursing certification

- Initiates interventions efficiently, safely, and skilfully, using sound clinical judgement and professional collaboration/consultation
- Demonstrated ability to work within a Total Patient Care Delivery system in which regulated health care professionals practice to their full scope adhering to the practice standards as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Demonstrated ability to implement critical thinking theory in the application of nursing knowledge and perioperative patient care
- Creative problem solver with a solution focus and patient-centred approach
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and use effective interpersonal skills with colleagues and other members of the BCHS and external partners
- Demonstrated knowledge of patient safety standards published by regulatory bodies and principles of risk management in the Perioperative environment.
- Ability to multi-task and set priorities in a high intensity and rapidly changing environment
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a team focus
- Enhances the quality of perioperative nursing care through direct patient care, mentoring and role modelling, and collaboration with health care team members
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and personal development in nursing and integration of evidence based practice into daily practice
- Mature, reliable individual with excellent attendance record and able to work all shifts
Technical:
- Provide knowledge-based technical assistance such as using surgical instruments, handling tissue, providing exposure, achieving hemostasis, and wound closure
- Possesses the essential fine motor skills to provide skilful technical assistance to the surgeon
- Skilfully applies principles of asepsis and infection control
- Preparation and administration of medications perioperative as directed by surgeons and anaesthesiologists
PREFERRED:
- PACU experience an asset
- Member of RNAO
