Job description

Osler is pleased to invite all interested and qualified candidates to apply for sponsorship to attend the critical care certification program at George Brown College for the upcoming intake. Successful applicants for the in-class program will receive funding for tuition, 13 weeks of paid education time and approximately four weeks of paid department orientation/integration time. Upon successful completion of the critical care certification program, you agree to commit to a period of 24 months of full-time employment in Osler's Critical Care Department.

Interested applicants are required to complete an application package consisting of the following:

  • Current resume
  • Virtually administered quiz

Successful candidates will be selected based on the qualifications below and completion of virtual clinical testing and a panel interview.

Job qualifications

  • Current registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses
  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing preferred
  • Must have a minimum of six months to one year recent related acute care hospital experience in an acute medical or surgical unit
  • Current BCLS required (ACLS or CPR-HCP preferred) or must be completed within six months of hire
  • Successful completion of Coronary Care I (Coronary Care II preferred)
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education within the past two years with emphasis placed on courses/conferences related to critical care specialties
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, conflict-resolution and decision-making skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an inter-professional team
  • Demonstrated knowledge of patient and family-centred care
  • Demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills required
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service, organizational and critical-thinking skills required
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development as it applies to the profession and related field
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Exemplary clinical practice within an inter-professional team
  • Ability to prioritize patient care needs and make autonomous decisions
  • Excellent patient/physical assessment skills required
  • Proven ability to take appropriate action when receiving notifications regarding patient care
  • Successful completion of the clinical test required
  • Reference from your current manager and clinical leader
  • Excellent attendance, punctuality and work record required
  • Must demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and Collaboration
  • Will be required to travel between and work at all Osler sites (Clinical Resource Team supporting Critical Care program will be required to float between Brampton Civic Hospital and Etobicoke General Hospital)

Additional information

Hours: Currently days/nights, 12 hour shifts including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
