Belmont House (located near Bay/Bloor) is a charitable, non-profit, Christian home for seniors offering long term care and retirement living. For more than 165 years we have provided quality care to our residents in a safe and stimulating home environment. We are the "Seniors' Home of Choice" helping our residents maintain independence, choice, dignity and privacy.  Due to the Home’s continuous growth, Belmont House is seeking an Assistant Director of Care (Clinical Educator).

Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Care (Clinical Educator) is accountable for overseeing nursing functions and education for paid staff and students.  Reporting to the Director of Care and working closely with Nursing Management, the position will assess, plan, implement and evaluate all aspects of resident care.

 

Qualifications:

  • Current certificate from the College of Nurses of Ontario and successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support 
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing required Minimum of 5 years current clinical nursing practice with demonstrated expertise in gerontology and clinical education PIECES education is an asset Long-term care experience is preferred. Current knowledge and application of long-term care nursing standards and best practice guidelines Excellent organizational, observational, teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills. Strong documentation skills Self-starter, flexible, adaptable, creative, and results-oriented individual Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills Team player, work collaboratively with others Demonstrated leadership ability Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook) Ability to articulate and demonstrate resident safety strategies Basic knowledge and understanding of established infection, prevention and control practices, techniques, policies and procedures in order to promote an environment that minimizes and/or stops the spread of germs

 

Major Responsibilities:

(Other duties may be assigned by the Director of Care)

  • Oversee RAI Program including supervising the Registered Practical Nurse (RAI Coordinator) and ensuring the accuracy of data entry and submissions to CIHI Oversee the behavioral support program including supervising the Registered Practical Nurse (BSO) and ensuring the program meets the needs of the residents and staff including gathering, reviewing and analyzing data. Coordinate and facilitate legislated and other training and orientation programs for staff and students in long term care.  This will include clinical placements to ensure a positive experience. Develop annual in-services calendar for Belmont House including selecting topics, reviewing training content to ensure compliance and deliver formal in-service education Promote collaborative relationships with internal and external partners including education institutions and government agencies Follow and ensure College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and Center for Learning, Research & Innovation in Long Term Care (CLRL) best practices are followed Maintain integrity of various nursing initiatives, coordinate available resources, plan and organize training of new staff Build and sustain the culture change Butterfly Model throughout Long Term Care including staff training on the Butterfly Model of Care Assist the Director of Care in long range planning for the Home
  • Participate in the preparation and implementation of the Nursing budget
  • Regularly review nursing activities, problems, and functions with the Director of Care Hire, orient, train, evaluate and supervise nursing staff on the unit in compliance with standards established by Belmont House, the Health Disciplines Act, and all other pertinent legislation. Keep own resident documentation up-to-date, and reviews staff documentation on residents. Instructs staff in appropriate methods of documentation.
  • With the Director of Care has the authority to counsel, discipline and dismiss staff
  • Approve staff absences including statutory holidays, sick time, reward days, personal leave, pregnancy/parental leave and bereavement leave Assist in the development, implementation and revision of policies, procedures, and programs related to safety, quality of resident care, Ministry of Long Term Care, etc., and respond to inquiries related to these documents Assist with the monitoring and tracking of Private Duty personnel that are employed by 3rd parties that visit the Home to provide services to residents Actively involved in The Continuous Quality Improvement Process, through the collection, evaluating and processing of data, as well as addressing the identified deficiencies to ensure standards are met.
  • Respond to staff/resident/tenant/family inquiries
  • Act as a liaison among a variety of health professionals outside the home Work collaboratively with the services of the dietician, physiotherapist, podiatrist, laboratory and other clinical services to ensure that residents receive the required care. Organise resident care plan meetings and participates when needed. Serve on committees as assigned by the Director of Care Administer direct care (e.g. medications, treatments) as required. Use the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. Maintain and ensures confidentiality of all resident and staff records and information.
