Position Summary:
We are currently seeking a talented individual to fill the role of temporary, full time, Lead Nurse within our Respite Program. The Lead Nurse position supports children and young adults with medical and/or behavioural complexity. Reporting to the Clinical Services Supervisor, this new and exciting position supports the training, and mentorship of Registered Practical Nurses (RPN's) and Respite Service Facilitators (RSF's) as well as the clinical intake and the development of individual care plans.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Services Supervisor to develop, implement, and deliver all respite programming;
  • Complete intake/admission assessments with clients and their caregivers;
  • Develop and review individual client care plans;
  • Communicate client care plans with respite staff;
  • Review and record all medical documentation;
  • Liaise with the larger respite team to enhance respite service delivery for each client;
  • Employ behavior management strategies as appropriate;
  • Provide onsite supervision, guidance and training to respite staff members.
  • Operate transfer and mobility equipment.
  • Adhere to health and safety procedures including infection control practices.
  • Completing all associated data collection and documentation as needed
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, families and community partners
  • Seek input from colleagues and share information and ideas to enhance team functioning and provide clinical direction for individual clients
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing degree required;
  • Active registration with the College of Nurse of Ontario required;
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience working with medically complex children and/or young adults and their families;
  • Experience working with children and/or young adults with medical needs such as seizures, tracheostomies and feeding tubes;
  • Experience working with children and/or young adults with challenging behaviors;
  • Experience mentoring/coaching RN's/RPN's is preferred;
  • Excellent nursing assessment and problem-solving abilities;
  • Outstanding organizational capacity;
  • Self-starter and proactive approach in resolving problems and issues;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • An ability to display a high level of initiative;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team setting;
  • Must be available to work flexible hours including evenings and Saturdays;
  • A valid Ontario driver's license is required as well as access to a personal vehicle.
