Emergency preparedness is a critical aspect of CCH operations. It is essential that all staff and physicians receive training and understand their roles and responsibilities in this field.
Summary of responsibilities
Function as a member of the Nursing Team within scope of practice. Provide/administer nursing care to patients according to policies, procedures and to the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and CCH practice standards.
As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the role of Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) at CCH is to deliver safe, effective, patient-centered, ethical, and evidenced-based nursing care as well as embody a culture of caregiver inclusion in the patient's plan of care. The overall function of the RPN is to assist our patients, families, caregivers and community to manage clinical conditions and transitions of care; as well as, assist patients in maximizing their self-care abilities and embody a culture of caregiver inclusion in the patient's plan of care.
Requirements of the job
• Graduate of a 2-year Community College Program
• Holds current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Valid Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
• Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
• Demonstrated experience relevant to the area of practice (psychiatry)
• Holds RPN medication administration certification
• Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification
Assets:
• Minimum of 1 year or equivalent hours part-time in Medical/Surgical Nursing
• Certificate in Psychiatric Nursing for Registered Practical Nurses
• Membership in RPNAO
• Functional level in both official languages (oral and written in English; oral in French - and testing completed)
Key skills or competencies
• Superior interpersonal organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team.
• Completes established curricula as required at the unit level
• Ability to work under pressure and to adapt to change
• Excellent patient assessment, critical thinking, communication (oral and written), and problem-solving skills
• Ability to develop, implement, evaluate and adapt a therapeutic nursing plan (Care plan)
