Spectrum Health Care is currently seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team as a Clinical Educator to support our teams in Toronto and Mississauga. This is a 14-month contract position with the possibility of extension or permanency. The Clinical Educator is responsible for planning, leading, implementing and evaluating comprehensive orientation and clinical education programs at the program and corporate levels for registered nurses/registered practical nurses.

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Practice, you will work in collaboration with the leadership team, nursing managers, nurses and other stakeholders to promote clinical excellence in the delivery of high quality, safe, patient-centered care.  As clinical educator you will review and revise policies and procedures related to professional practice and clinical care, and provide education and evaluation of the learning program.  You will actively participate in quality improvement activities, including shaping and monitoring quality indicators which will guide the development of tools to support teaching and learning for staff and patients. 

  • Plans, delivers, and evaluates competency-based orientation and continuing education programs to nurses
  • Conducts needs assessments, provides recommendations and plans education programs to support strategic objectives and evidence-based practice
  • Coordinates the development, marketing, delivery and evaluation of inter-professional clinical education services including online and audiovisual holdings
  • Supports BPSO activities and initiatives
  • Assumes a teaching role for selected programs
  • Collaborates with team members to develop creative strategies for learning
  • Monitors and evaluates integration of learning into clinical practice for example: through documentation audits, review of use of learning management system by nursing teams.
  • Partners with members of the management team to establish recommendations and plans for improvement and/or achievement of clinical excellence

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master's degree preferred (or in progress)
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Minimum 5 years home care experience
  • Experience with Palliative patients is an asset 
  • 2+ years’ experience in a nursing educator role required
  • Must have a vehicle, G2/G license and be willing to travel between locations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of adult education and learning design
  • Proficient with designing curriculum and content for learning management systems
  • Excellent facilitation skills with demonstrated presentation skills
  • Proven commitment to evidence-based practice and reflective practice
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and proven effectiveness as coach and mentor
  • Demonstrated ability to lead during times of change and role-model effective change management
