DIRECTOR OF CARE (FULL-TIME, PERMANENT)

Reporting directly to the Director, Long-Term Care, the Director of Care (DOC) is responsible for the effective and effective management of the Nursing Department. The Director of Care prepares and manages the nursing budget, staffing and supplies, and works collaboratively with the other nursing team members to provide quality resident care, ensuring resident safety by following relevant acts, regulations, professional bodies, policies, and directives from the Ministry of Health, Long-Term Care and CARF Accreditation.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario, required.
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing, preferred.
- Minimum four years of Nursing experience including three years of experience in a managerial or supervisory role working in a health-care setting, required.
- Minimum one year of Nursing experience in the long-term care sector, required.
- Certificate in Gerontology - GNC (C) designation, preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of MOHLTC standards for long-term care with an emphasis on nursing administration and quality resident care.
- Demonstrated knowledge of all applicable legislation and regulations pertinent to the role, as well as an understanding of policies and legislation affecting municipal government that impact functioning in the role.
- Ability to establish an effective framework and departmental goals, develop audits, and accurately collect and analyze data to improve resident outcomes.
- Good understanding of staffing and scheduling procedures.
- Ability to prepare accurate and detailed records and reports.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices and protocols, and application of this knowledge in long term care setting.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with residents, family members and staff and to function effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Compassionate, resilient and resident-focused demeanour.
- Demonstrated leadership and people management skills, including effective mentoring, coaching, counselling and conflict management.
- Experience working in a unionized environment, preferred.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, including strong organizational, planning, time management, administrative, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to prioritize and work efficiently and accurately to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment, responding with flexibility to changing priorities.
- Advanced computer proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, RAI MOS and computerized nursing documentation programs.
- Valid Class “G” Ontario driver’s license in good standing.
- Current satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
The current annual salary range for this position is $100,349 to $140,513 as per the Non-Union By-Law. Compensation also includes on-call premium pay, a competitive benefit package and membership in OMERS, a defined benefit pension plan.
