Registered Nurses in the Northwest Territories provide direct nursing care to a wide variety of adult and/or pediatric patients requiring immediate medical treatment using a problem-solving approach and in accordance with the standards, guidelines, and scope of professional nursing practice to facilitate individualized nurse care to patients.
The RN acts as a patient advocate and facilitates communication between the patient, family and interdisciplinary Team. This will result in a holistic approach to planning, organizing, teaching, and relationship development that will best meet the needs of the patient.
Northwest Territories’ RNs are provided with one of the highest salaries in Canada, including an incredible compensation and recruitment package. The annual salary range for a full-time RN in the NWT ranges from $103,818 to $124,020, with potential additional gross earnings (before overtime, shift-premiums, and on-call pay) of between approximately $25,500 and $42,100 within the first year of employment, based on northern living allowance, recruitment bonus, 1-year retention bonus, and other paid benefits.
Additional benefits include relocation assistance, professional fees reimbursements, northern tax benefits (up to $11/day in deductions after 6-months of residency), outstanding leave benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, health and dental plans, maternity and parental leave, professional development opportunities, education support, and an optional deferred salary leave plan. RNs are also typically eligible for student loan forgiveness through Canada’s Loan Forgiveness Program.
These positions typically require the completion of a nursing degree, plus two years relevant work experience.
