How Acute Care Nurse Practitioners (ACNP/ EC RN) support our teams at Grand River Hospital:
Functioning within the multidisciplinary team, the NP collaborates with the Obstetricians to facilitate the assessment and treatment plan for obstetric patients with particular focus in obstetric triage. The NP is an expert clinician who provides history, physical, and diagnostic assessment to establish a plan of care and expedite timely disposition and safe care for obstetric patients. Nurse Practitioners are accountable to the Nurse Practitioner practice standard (CNO, 2023 41038_strdrnec.pdf (cno.org) in addition to the other practice standards and guidelines all nurses must follow. The Nurse Practitioner demonstrates autonomy by assuming and having sole accountability and the authority to independently communicate a diagnosis, prescribe drugs and order a range of diagnostic tests within the scope of practice. In collaboration with the obstetrician on call, the NP will:·Perform history & physical, documentation of findings and communicate with the obstetrician on call

- Orders appropriate diagnostic testing and reviews results
- Completes cervical ripening procedures
- Informs patients and providers of findings and required follow up
- Autonomous practice is enhanced by the use of medical directives

- Current registration with the College of Nurses as a Nurse Practitioner (Registered Nurse in the Extended Class) with no practice restrictions
- Masters of Science (Nursing) or a masters in a relevant discipline preferred
- Ability to be self-directed and work autonomously
- Ability to function within a collaborative practice model
- A comprehensive knowledge base and high degree of clinical competence in perinatal nursing - a minimum of 5 years of clinical practice is required
- Ability to assess, manage, direct, and provide comprehensive care for obstetric patients while working in an interdisciplinary team environment.
- Current certification in fetal health surveillance (FHS) and neonatal resuscitation (NRP) is required
- Client service oriented, ability to effectively work from a diversity, equity and inclusion lens
- Ability to support patient program development is necessary
- Ability to promote professional education and advances knowledge through research and scholarly activities as necessary
