We currently have a number of opportunities for Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) to join our Mental Health teams (IP Psych, EAU, CAIP, SPMH).

How Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) support our Mental Health team at Grand River Hospital

Grand River Hospital offers exciting opportunities to Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) interested in starting or developing a career in Mental Health. Full paid orientation is provided & educational support is available.

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) assists in the co-ordination of total nursing care for an assigned group of patients. The RPN works closely with other nursing staff and patient team personnel, in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice within the clinical setting. Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

At Grand River Hospital, our Mental Health, Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs):

· Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario

· Post diploma in Psychiatric Nursing preferred

· Minimum of 3-year experience in mental health nursing preferred

· Experience in working collaboratively in multidisciplinary setting

· Code white and de-escalation training

· Knowledge of mental illness, suicidal behaviors and current mental health practices and treatment modalities

· Demonstrates knowledge of recovery principles into practice with patients and their families

· Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills

· Using preset standards and protocols and within their RPN scope of practice, provides assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of individuals with psychiatric/mental health disorders

· Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act and Substitute Decisions Act

· Excellent patient teaching skills

· Good attendance record

· Basic Rescuer CPR
