QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing required, Master's in Nursing is considered an asset
- Current Registered Nurse registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) required
- Current BCLS certification
- Minimum of eight (8) years of recent practical experience with a minimum of five (5) years work experience in an acute care setting
- Ability to work varying shifts including weekends
- Experience with Simulations is considered an asset
- Excellent organizational, communication and leadership skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated computer literacy
- In-person position, must be able to reliably commute to the agency(ies) site(s)
DUTIES:
- Provide students with appropriate learning experiences in acute, long term, community, and simulated health care settings
- Select clients for student care according to level and ability of the student and course learning outcomes
- Review and clarify the nursing practice course expectations
- Maintain an effective and harmonious relationship with members of the health care team, the students, clients and their families and medical staff
- Provide orientation for students to the clinical placement site and respective Policies and Procedures
- Reinforce classroom theory and assist students to apply the theory in practical situations in the clinical setting
- Supervise and monitor ongoing client care provided by students
- Utilize set educational guidelines, policies and procedures of the clinical agency/simulation environment, educational institution, and Guidelines for Professional Standards
- Intervene in unpredictable and ever-changing patient(s) condition to ensure patient safety and student success
- Modify clinical assignments and organizational plan to accommodate unanticipated events
- Work collaboratively with faculty lead and other Degree Nurse Clinicians to determine and implement an effective learning environment
- Assess, evaluate, and report on student performance in giving client care by adhering to learning outcome criteria and using established forms and evaluation tools written and prepared by course faculty
- Reassess student competency, level of learning, synthesis of knowledge and applications (i.e. performance) in unstable environments and changing patient conditions
- Record observations on student clinical placement performance including seeking input from clinical agency staff when there is an incident or area of concern regarding a student's performance
- Provide the clinical course faculty lead the final evaluation and decision regarding the student's success in the course
- Build and maintain relationships/linkages with placement sites as the College on-site representative
- Solve problems and resolve issues related to assignment conflicts (client acuity change), interpersonal conflicts, incident reports (errors, incidents), gaps in information related to processing orders, etc.
- Other duties as assigned
