Position Summary

Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Integrated Stroke Unit, the successful applicant will be responsible for comprehensive nursing care throughout the BCHS and must meet the following criteria

Education Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited college nursing program
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Experience in Neuroscience, Inpatient Stroke and Rehabilitation (minimum 1 year)

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and professionalism in nursing

  • Proven critical thinking skills
  • Ability to multitask and set priorities in a rapidly changing environment
  • Well-developed negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to be a coach, teacher and mentor to colleagues and students
  • Ability to establish work relationships with external partners
  • Reliable individual with excellent attendance record
  • Demonstrated interest in stroke
  • Safety (patient, worker & workplace) is a BCHS Corporate Priority. The successful applicant will demonstrate good stewardship in the identification, reporting and mitigation of unsafe acts or conditions.

Preferred Competencies

  • Completion of Hemispheres Stroke Competency, Aphasia Training, CNS, STAND assessments
  • Understanding of rehabilitation nursing philosophy of care and Self-Management principles
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Best Practice Recommendations for Stroke Care
  • Demonstrated interest in stroke and understanding of BCHS as a District Stroke Centre
  • Experience caring for persons with Aphasia and use of Supportive Conversation techniques
  • Reliable individual with excellent attendance record and able to work all shifts
