Clinical Lead – Eastern Division

Mohawk Medbuy Corporation (MMC) is a national, not-for-profit, shared services organization that supports hundreds of health care providers across Canada, as well as child welfare agencies and other public sector organizations. MMC provides value-driven contracting and procurement solutions for medical/surgical supplies, pharmaceutical products, local sourcing, capital (equipment, FF&E and redevelopment) and nutrition solutions. Other services include data analytics, in-hospital support, warehousing/logistics, technology, procure-to-pay, and accounts payable.

MMC is actively supporting the creation of a resilient value chain that incorporates environmental social, and economic wellbeing – and fosters the participation of Indigenous businesses. Based in Burlington, ON, MMC operates regional hubs in Toronto, Thunder Bay, Kingston, Brantford and London as well as a hub and distribution center in Oakville.

We are currently recruiting for a full-time Clinical Lead – Eastern Division to support our Clinical & Quality Assurance division. This is a hybrid role, with 3 days out of MMC's Kingston office and 2 days a week from home. Occasional travel may be required to MMC offices and Eastern Region Member hospitals 

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Director, Clinical & Quality Assurance, the Clinical Lead for clinical products and equipment, works within the context of the vision, values and strategic operations of Mohawk Medbuy to facilitate product selection and standardization that will result in care providers having appropriate supplies to support safe, efficient clinical practice in a cost-effective manner.  The Clinical Lead will work collaboratively with Strategic Sourcing teams, member hospital personnel, warehouse and in-hospital logistics teams to maintain a process and criteria for goods being standardized and approved and for managing supply disruptions.

Key Responsibilities:

Supply Disruption

  • Leads the Eastern Division Product Disruption team
  • Acts as a liaison and clinical support to the Eastern office warehouse, including management of supply disruptions, substitution processes, and any other clinical issues.
  • Oversee a process for medical device alerts, product recalls, and complaints including the follow up on substitutes and liaison with clinical teams, in-hospital logistics, Eastern office warehouse, and Strategic Sourcing
  • Utilize clinical expertise and critical thinking to identify solutions and provide recommendations in the supply chain disruption management process.
  • Working with MMC Members, suppliers, vendors, distributors, and internal departments, to improve efficiency, communication, and timeliness of supplies.
  • Support member organizations by finding alternative sources of clinically acceptable supplies when disruptions occur.
  • Assist in seeking to proactively decrease supply disruptions and prevent impact to patient care.
  • Work closely with MMC’s Industry leading MitigAID Program, including maintenance and development of the weekly MitigAID report.
  • Engage with vendors, members, and external/government partners pertaining to high-impact supply disruptions, as required.

RFP’s

  • Provide professional clinical expertise and leadership throughout the Request for Proposal (RFP) Sourcing process. This includes Integration of clinical research and best practices into the RFP process, the creation of scoring specifications and requirements, and member engagement through Clinical Expert Groups (CEGs) and vendor education sessions.

Standardization

  • Works collaboratively with member healthcare departments, Strategic Sourcing personnel to facilitate product selection, evaluation and standardization. 
  • Leads projects to assist new members with product standardization and product transitions.
  • Represents MMC Eastern office as the primary representative and resource on in-hospital Product Evaluation and Standardization Committees for all member hospitals. Also chairs a regional Clinical Product and Standardization Committee
  • Works with clinical end users on decisions relating to product substitution, conversion, addition, deletion and change.  Works with member sites on the process for product and equipment trials, evaluations and outcome analysis.
  • Reports on market conditions, trends and technological advancements as required.
  • Ensures that clinical supplies and equipment meet established standards and legislation that will support clinical practice, strategic, operational and fiscal objectives of MMC/ Eastern office and its membership.
  • Responsible to address and manage challenges/queries relating to service, process, controls and practice as they relate to products and equipment.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with suppliers and their representatives, hospital employees and outside agents.
  • Maintains confidentiality with respect to the release of information in accordance with MMC and member policies.

Member Engagement

  • Acts as a liaison and provides clinical support to in-hospital logistics teams as required.
  • The Clinical Lead provides professional clinical expertise and leadership in the management of new and existing member relationships.
  • The Clinical Lead will actively engage in member and MMC initiatives to ensure the voice of the clinician is present.

Other Responsibilities        

  • Support training and mentorship of new team members, as required.
  • Provide coverage for Director, as required.
  • Additional professional tasks at the request of the Director
  • Support the Innovation Launchpad, Indigenous LaunchPad, and ESG program on product and Vendor evaluation.
  • Support the Director in ad hoc Member meetings and Clinical Councils
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to learn and adapt.
  • Demonstrated ability to compile relevant research, conduct a review and analysis of said research and provide an executive summary of findings appropriate to identified receiving audience i.e. Clinical and non-clinical.
  • Strong communication skills (presentation and written)
  • Committed to ensuring a patient-centered approach and supporting member hospitals
  • Excellent planning and organizational skill
  • Ability to be self-directed, results oriented with demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of contract law and Broader Public Sector (BPS) is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency in a variety of software packages (i.e. Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, superior PowerPoint skills, Outlook and e-mail)
  • Business minded, value proposition approaches.
  • Experience and ability to work with a team as well as independently.
  • Demonstrated ability in investigating and analyzing information to identify trends, issues, opportunities and recommendation for change.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and conflict resolution skills in difficult situations.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • University Degree or equivalent (4 years) – Registered Nurse with current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • 6+ years healthcare sector experience and 3+ years relevant Acute Care clinical experience (examples include OR, Critical Care, Med/Surg experience).
  • Minimum 2 years relevant progressive healthcare leadership experience
  • Experience working with and leading multi-disciplinary teams from a group of various-sized hospitals and differing cultures

  • Kingston Office (Hybrid)
  • Occasional travel may be required to MMC offices, and Eastern Region Member hospitals
