Position: Registered Practical Nurse

Status: Full-Time, Part-Time

Department: Medical Surgical Unit

Salary: $34.86 to $37.05 / hour

Hours of Work: Days, evenings, nights and weekend shifts

Position Summary:

As a member of the Unit Patient Care Team on the Medical/Surgical Unit of the Hospital, the Registered Practical Nurse provides direct nursing care to patients, in accordance with the philosophy, objectives and policies and the Standards of Nursing Practice. The Registered Practical Nurse works under the direction of and in conjunction with other regulated health care professional members of the team. The RPN participates in service and hospital-wide activities and programs that model and promote a safe and healthy patient-centered environment and that contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:
  • A Registered Practical Nurse currently registered with College of Nurses
  • Successful completion of an approved Medications Administration Course consistent with the Standard of the College of Nursing of Ontario. Able to demonstrate competence in the administration of medications
  • Preference will be given to those individuals who have had related client/patient care experience in a long-term care or hospital environment and have successfully worked as a member of a workplace team
  • Preference to those with current medical/surgical experience
  • Valid BCLS and maintain throughout employment
  • Member of RPNAO preferred

  • Ability to work independently and also function effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in a fast paced environment
  • Demonstrated flexibility, creativity and ability to prioritize
  • Demonstrated ability to relate in a tactful and sensitive manner with patients, visitors, staff and volunteers
  • Good attendance and availability required
