Opportunity
Manager of Clinical Services – Acute Care is responsible for the management of the acute clinical units and services. The position facilitates and supports implementation of evidence‑based practices to achieve excellence in high quality delivery of patient care, and leads the multi-disciplinary team to provide person-centered care.
The Manager of Clinical Services– Acute Care reports to the Vice President Clinical Services & Chief Nursing Executive, and is a key member of the leadership team of the organization.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse with a current certificate of competence, in good standing, from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current member in related professional nursing, interest group, or association.
- Five (5) years leadership experience in a hospital environment.
- Experience managing within a unionized environment with knowledge of the collective bargaining process.
- Knowledge of current nursing and healthcare practices and trends.
- Must be computer literate, with competency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, computerized patient care and assessment programs.
- Working knowledge of the Public Hospitals Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Excellent Care for All legislation.
- Proven ability to coach and train with an understanding of adult learning principles.
- Ability to work independently and be self-directed in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
- Produce high quality work while meeting deadlines.
- Effective prioritization and organizational skills.
- Maintain staff & patient confidentiality.
- Exceptional leadership abilities and a demonstrated passion for engaging employees and promoting a supportive and productive work culture.
- Excellent problem solving skills with strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the Manager of Clinical Services – Acute Care include, but are not limited to, the following key duties and actions that support clinical care and services:
- Manage and supervise day-to-day operations of clinical areas of responsibility, including staffing patterns, patient flow, reporting requirements and resource allocation.
- Monitor workload data and patient volumes/activity and adjust staff and resources accordingly.
- Maintain all required records, reports, statistics, etc., for both patients and department personnel in accordance with policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
- Ensure departments operate within the operating budgets established and within alignment of organizational priorities.
- Supervise staff and support departmental communication and staff development, including holding regular staff meetings, completing performance evaluations and responding to staff needs and issues.
- Identify, review and support educational initiatives that align with operational and strategic outcomes.
- Maintain required records, reports, and statistics for both patients and department personnel in accordance with policies, procedures, quality improvement indicators/initiatives and legislative requirements.
- Review and complete follow-up incident reports and identify and communicate trends to quality, professional and leadership teams.
- Identify and take appropriate actions to prevent and minimize risks and investigate, respond and report sentinel and critical events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- In collaboration with appropriate team members, implement, monitor and revise patient care and unit processes and procedures to ensure smooth operation of clinical units.
- Ensure appropriate systems and resources are in place to support timely and appropriate patient flow and smooth transition and coordination of patient services across the continuum of care.
- Ensure programs are in place to assess and evaluate all quality of care processes and outcomes in collaboration with the Vice President Clinical Services & Chief Nursing Executive, and members of the health care team and corporate quality, safety and risk programs.
- Ensure that the provision of patient care complies with standards, guidelines, policies and procedures, and legislation.
- Promote, facilitate and exemplify positive patient relations supports and demonstrate the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization.
