One of a network of provincial community health centres, the NorWest Community Health Centres is a community based, non-profit organization funded by Ontario Health, emphasizing access to primary health care and prevention programs and services.

We are currently seeking a 1 Full Time Nurse Practitioner (RN-EC), who as valuable members of the Community Health Centre team will provide services within the RN-EC scope of practice at the Thunder Bay site. There is a strong practice emphasis on disease prevention, health promotion, health education and community partnerships. As part of the interprofessional care team, the focus will be on providing primary health care services to provide support for preventative and health promotion delivery to the Unattached Children Program. This is a new funded position.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BScN in nursing from a recognized University and in addition a certificate in the extended class from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Three to five years' work experience in a combination of community settings and/or public health and asset.
  • Thorough knowledge and proficiency in current extended class nursing procedures, physical assessment and treatment measures within the RN-EC scope of practice.
  • Experience in supporting preventative and health promotion primary care for unattached children facing barriers to health and social services.
  • Awareness and sensitivity to socio-economic and cultural issues.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to health issues particularly within populations who face barriers to accessing care (under housed, living with mental health challenges or diagnoses, current or past substance use, complex health histories, 2SLGBTQIA+, newcomers, non-insured).
  • Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of community-based health care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in an interprofessional team environment.
  • Flexibility in work hours is required and ability to work at different sites as required.
  • Awareness of northern community health care needs.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interprofessional setting.
  • Experience and knowledge working with the Centre's priority populations.
  • Valid driver's license required and access to a vehicle.
