Mackenzie Health is a proud participant in the Nursing Graduate Guarantee (NGG) program for newly Registered Nurses and Practical Nurses. Nurses participating in this program will be provided with full-time employment at above staffing complement during the 12-week program and will be partnered with an experienced nurse to support their successful transition to practice. Multiple departments participating including Clinical Resource Team, Critical Care, Emergency, Medicine, Mental Health, Women and Child and Reactivation Care Centre.

During the 12-week transition to practice period, Mackenzie Health will support you by:
Following successful completion of the 12- week program, you will transition to a role within the hospital, where you will use a patient- and family-centred approach in providing holistic, quality and safe care to patients within the scope of practice identified by the College of Nurses of Ontario, evidence-based nursing practices and the standards set by Mackenzie Health. Working independently and collaboratively as part of the interprofessional care team, you will contribute to creating a world-class health experience for patients and their families, by demonstrating professionalism at every turn, upholding our values of excellence, leadership and empathy, and exemplifying our Commitment to Caring.

How to Participate
- Eligible nurses must use the NGG Online Portal to register and create a profile
- Visit the NGG online portal and register as a Nursing User
- Apply for the various departments with Mackenzie Health
- Complete the transition into practice period

During the 12-week transition to practice period, Mackenzie Health will support you by:
- Providing you with general orientation to the organization; allowing you to gain consistent knowledge on organizational practices, policies and standards
- Ensuring that a mentor is available to work with you and that there is a designated transition into practice leader who is accountable for monitoring the progress with you and your mentor(s)
- Ensuring that a learning plan is developed by you and mentor
- Meeting the goals of the learning plan by including a variety of teaching strategies and delivery methods to educate on competencies, as it relates to your area/unit of employment

You will contribute to safe, quality care by:
- Managing a workload effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Addressing and resolving issues in a productive, respectful manner
- Exercising sound professional judgment and using best practice guidelines
- Contributing to a safe, inclusive environment for all through compliance with patient and staff safety policies and procedures
What must you have?
- Must match with an employer on the NGG online portal within 12 months of registering with the CNO
- Must commit to accepting full-time employment or the equivalent of full-time hours with their NGG employer after completing the NGG program transition into practice period
- Must be a graduate with a Nursing Diploma in registered practical nursing from a recognized nursing program OR must be a graduate with a baccalaureate degree in nursing from a recognized Nursing program, within the last six months
- Current Certificate of Registration in the General Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- Proven clinical experience with patient-focused care, including strong patient assessment, care planning, patient education and documentation skills
What else do you bring?
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, and verbal and written communication skills in English, with an ability to deliver information and work effectively with patients, families and colleagues
- Familiarity with the Regulated Health Professions Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, and the Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Proven clinical experience with patient-focused care, including strong patient assessment, care planning, patient education and documentation skills
- Experience working with electronic medical records
- Familiarity with the Regulated Health Professions Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, and the Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, and verbal and written communication skills in English, with an ability to deliver information and work effectively with patients, families and colleagues
- Demonstrated strong decision-making, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and adjust to new or unexpected events
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development
