Unit Summary The Medical Day Care (MDC) located at MUMC provides treatments to patients afflicted with a wide range of disorders and chronic complex diseases in an ambulatory setting. Treatments include but are not limited to: blood transfusions, Immunoglobulin transfusions, iron infusions, lumbar punctures, Remicade infusions and phlebotomy. In addition, apheresis treatments are provided in the MDCambulatory settings
As a member of the interdisciplinary team, in collaboration with the Registered Nurse (RN), the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) provides and evaluates nursing care to meet patient's needs, including Intravenous therapy, infusion of IV medications, administration of blood products, iron infusions and assisting with invasive procedures such as lumbar puncture. The RPN will participate in continued education and completion and maintenance of certifications associated with the identified nursing skills and complete learning plans to achieve these goals
Schedule Work Hours Monday to Friday; days and available to work a flexible time schedule. This is a temporary position until October of 2025.

Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) 2. Current certificates or current community college studies in: health assessment/physical assessment, asepsis, wound care, airway management, complex wound care, medication administration, veni-puncture, and transcribing physician orders 3. Current CPR Certificate 4. Extensive (at least 1 year) experience with transfusion therapy and monitoring patient outcomes 5. Recent (within 2 years) experience in an acute inpatient unit 6. Experience and skill in blood product administration, advanced vascular access therapy skills and IV starts 7. Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills; ability to organize, prioritize and carry out multiple tasks; effectively assess and meet patients learning needs; support patient and families of patients who are terminally or chronically ill 8. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal/professional development 9. Available to work a flexible time schedule
