Job Summary:

The Clinical Manager for Baycrest’s High Tolerance Rehabilitation (HTR) and Low Tolerance Long Duration (LTLD) Rehabilitation is accountable for ensuring clinical and operational excellence. Responsible for promoting outstanding patient and family experience by developing and supporting high performance teams while ensuring high quality and safe patient care, the Clinical Manager will work in collaboration with Operational and Interprofessional Practice Leaders at Baycrest Hospital. The Clinical Manager will support the development and implementation of program planning and the evaluation of services to meet the needs of the specific patient populations. The Clinical Manager is a key leader, supporting Baycrest in implementing new directions consistent with the Baycrest strategic plan and other health system requirements and innovations. Communication and collaboration with patients and their families, interprofessional team members and system partners are core expectations of this role.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise day-to-day clinical operations, providing guidance on processes, guidelines, and expectations
  • Promotes a patient and family centred care approach, and responds effectively to and addresses issues identified by patients and family members in a timely fashion
  • Engages in coaching, mentoring, supporting professional judgment, and conducts routine performance appraisals
  • Promotes staff initiative, accountability and critical thinking skills in resolving clinical and operational issues
  • Actively engages in activities that promote a culture of continuous quality improvement, including contributing to the identification and monitoring of metrics and performance indicators that reflect quality improvement processes
  • Provides point of care resources to ensure safe and effective patient care
  • Supports the interprofessional team in the development of service delivery that provides exceptional patient/family care
  • Provides leadership to priority projects aligned with provincial initiatives and contributes to the identification of and accomplishment of identified measures
  • Collaborates with the interprofessional team to implement best practices, quality documentation practices and accountability models
  • Ensures an interprofessional approach to care, recognizing the unique contribution of each team member
  • Contributes to the organization and the program in the realization of Baycrest’s mission, vision, values and strategic plan
  • Identifies trends, issues and challenges requiring change in practice patterns or processes
  • Works collaboratively with the leadership team taking joint accountability for patient outcomes, financial/operational budgets and utilization targets and overall unit performance

Qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • Current membership in good standing with a Regulated Health Discipline Professional College in Ontario
  • Master’s Degree in healthcare related field (e.g. Nursing)
  • Current and valid Basic Cardiac Life Support (‘BCLS’) certification
  • Proven clinical experience within a healthcare setting that includes a demonstrated knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation standards
  • Experience in inpatient rehabilitation and/or demonstrated knowledge of sector-specific trends and initiatives.
  • Highly effective skills in communication, team building, and conflict resolution skills in an interprofessional team environment
  • Demonstrated effective and innovative leadership, critical thinking, problem solving and judgment skills
  • Previous experience leading/participating in process improvement initiatives Knowledge and skill in program development, implementation and evaluation
  • Experienced with Hospital information systems and Microsoft Office software applications
  • Demonstrated commitment to on-going professional development and continuing education
  • Previous management experience in a unionized environment and knowledge of collective agreements preferred
