Situated in the beautiful Ottawa Valley, the Town of Barry’s Bay offers the benefits of a small community and a progressive hospital.  St. Francis Memorial Hospital (SFMH) is committed to progressive leadership in the delivery of rural health care. SFMH offers a complete range of inpatient and outpatient services, including a very active emergency department.  We are currently recruiting a dynamic individual to join our senior leadership team on a permanent, full-time basis as the Vice President & Chief Nursing Executive (CNE).

St. Francis Memorial Hospital (SFMH) is a 20-bed, fully accredited facility located just 30 minutes from Algonquin Park, serving a catchment area of over 10,000. SFMH provides inpatient medical and complex continuing care as well as extensive ambulatory care with over 11,000 emergency and clinic visits per year. We work with EPIC EMR, which connects us to most hospitals in our region.  This small, rural hospital employs 150 staff with a shared administrative structure with Renfrew Victoria Hospital.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will provide strategic and operational guidance to all nursing services including medicine, critical care, complex care, emergency and ambulatory care, infection control, pharmacy, physiotherapy, foot care as well as hospital informatics.

 

The CNE is responsible for overseeing patient relations including quality of care and addressing any concerns regarding patient care.  In this role, the CNE provides leadership at multiple regional and provincial tables acting as an advocate for our rural hospital.

 

As a member of the senior leadership team the CNE is responsible for leading clinical operations and ensuring compliance with legislative and professional requirements. You will champion the provision of safe, high quality patient care ensuring that Accreditation standards are met.

Given the breadth of this role, preference will be given to candidates who possess the following skills, qualification, and experience:

  • B.Sc. Nursing with a graduate degree in a relevant field
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive clinical hospital leadership experience
  • Currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, collaborator, and team builder
  • Demonstrated success with planning, organization leadership, management, labour relations financial management, communication and related skills
  • A visible and compassionate leader who listens, consults, collaborates and can coach others
  • Proven track record of conceptualizing and operationalizing innovative ideas
  • A leadership style that inspires excellence, innovation, and interdisciplinary teamwork
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and proven ability to multi-task in a high volume, results oriented environment
  • A demonstrated commitment to professional development and continued education
  • Demonstrated ability to represent the Hospital at multiple regional and provincial tables.

Company

St. Francis Memorial Hospital is a 20 bed, fully accredited facility, offering medical, and complex continuing care. Special in‐patient services include palliative care, diabetes clinic, telemedicine and Cardiac Rehabilitation. A two bed Hospice is directly down the hall from our inpatient unit. The hospital has an extensive ambulatory care program with over 10,000 emergency visits per year. A 6‐ station satellite hemodialysis unit is located at the St. Francis Memorial Hospital in Barry’s Bay.

 

SFMH offers comprehensive in-patient, out-patient and telehealth clinics in addition to regional programs such as Addiction Treatment, Diabetes Education, Hemodialysis & Nephrology and Ontario Breast Screening. There is full diagnostic support within the hospital including staff radiologists providing radiological, ultrasound, bone density and mammography support. The hospital is located in the village of Barry’s Bay and serves a catchment of approximately 10,000 population dispersed over a large geographic area.

 

In 2019, SFMH implemented a new state of the art electronic health information system in collaboration with five regional partners including The Ottawa Hospital, Hawkesbury and District General Hospital, Renfrew Victoria Hospital and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, as well as the Ottawa Hospital Academic Family Health Team. As part of the health information system, each health partner has real-time access to patient medical information allowing health-care providers to make timely, informed decisions based on the most comprehensive, and connected information. SFMH shares Senior Leadership/Administrative roles with Renfrew Victoria Hospital (RVH). RVH has been designated as Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) by RNAO and through this SFMH and through these collaborations and integration efforts SFMH also remains on the leading edge of practice.
