We are seeking a caring and compassionate Registered Practical Nurse to join our health care team at the Brockville Jail. As a Registered Practical Nurse, you will provide nursing care, within the RPN scope of practice as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario, to patients in stable health care conditions and patients in health care conditions with predicable outcomes.

What can I expect to do in this role?

 

In this role, you will:

 

• Prepare and administer medications
• Monitor effects, side effects and adverse effects of medications and/or treatment
• Report observations to the MD/registered nurse
• Respond to emergencies and urgent care
• Monitor patients' health care status
• Maintain accurate medical records and charts
• Maintain a safe, secure and clean environment
• Liaise with other clinical and correctional professionals
• Practise in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario Practice Standards and Ministry expectations

How do I qualify?

 

Mandatory

 

• You are currently registered in good standing as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario

 

Nursing Knowledge, Experience and Skills

 

• You can provide full scope of services to patients with defined needs, and/or predicable outcomes, including the ability to: elicit, interpret and evaluate information from patients and other sources; evaluate and assess patients' responses to planned health care interventions; identify patients with complex needs; contribute to the development of treatment and care plans
• You have knowledge of professional practice standards, best practice guidelines, and nursing theories, practices and relevant legislation (such as Regulated Health Professions Act, Health Care Consent Act) to develop and provide nursing care, and ensure appropriate treatment is administered

 

Problem-Solving and Analytical skills

 

• You can identify patients with complex needs, and provide routine and emergency care, health teaching and counselling to patients with defined needs and/or predicable outcomes

 

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

 

• You can work effectively with staff and patients, advocate on behalf of patients, explain health care treatment, explain possible side effects of medications and medical treatment, provide health education, and promote and support treatment goals

 

Teamwork Skills

 

• You can work as a member of an inter-professional team to discuss patient care with other health care professionals, and deliver care to a diverse patient population

 

Hours of Work

 

• The hours of work for this irregularly-scheduled, casual position are 0-40 hours per week. You are expected to work rotating shifts in a health care unit that provides 7 days per week service, up to 24 hours a day.

 

Salary Range: $26.81 - $29.50 Per Hour

Note:

 

  • In accordance with the Ontario Public Service (OPS), Employment Screening Checks Policy (ESCP), the top candidate(s) may be required to undergo a security screening check. Refer to the above to determine the screening checks that are required for this position.

At this time, all employees working in congregate living settings are required to provide proof they are fully vaccinated, meaning they are fully vaccinated as defined by the Ministry of Health (refer to: COVID-19 Fully Vaccinated Status in Ontario ), including 14 calendar days have passed since receiving their final dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
     
    Employees who do not provide proof of full vaccination will be deemed ‘not vaccinated' under the Employer's policy and will be required to attend a vaccine education program, as determined by the Employer. Employees who are not vaccinated under the policy with a valid medical exemption will not be required to attend a vaccine education program. All employees working in congregate living settings must undergo regular rapid antigen testing, regardless of vaccination status.
