A day in the role of the Director Of Care at Lancaster Long Term Care Residence :

At Lancaster Long Term Care Residence we believe in continuous learning, and therefore you will be placed under high expectations to continue to grow personally and professionally in your role. The Director Of Care provides leadership to the resident care team in all aspects of resident care within established legislative standards and professional standards.

The Director of Care also effectively manages human, material and financial resources. In collaboration with the resident care team the Director of Care develops resident focused programs, policies and procedures as well as monitors the quality of care and services delivered to clients through effective quality improvement activities.

Other essential duties include but are not limited to:
  • Promotes and supports Vision Mission and Values
  • Leads the nursing team in all aspects providing for Person Centered Care for our residents
  • Manages all aspects of human resources relating to the Nursing Department
  • Maintains Legislative Compliance with all appropriate legislation; LTCHA and Regulation 79/10, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employment Standards Act., Labour Relations Act, etc.
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of the resident bill of rights and monitors to ensure rights of residents are always respected and promoted
  • Develops policies and procedures consistent with resident care practices, CNO, LTCHA and Regulation and other applicable legislation
  • Manages all financial matters associated with the nursing department; budgeting, resource allocation, purchasing, staffing etc.
  • Reviews trends quality improvement activities and takes the lead in changing practices, introducing new policies, programs, and services based on the identified trends and analysis.
  • Takes Leadership for all aspects of the nursing department.
  • Is accountable and responsible for all aspects of services delivered by the nursing department
  • Effectively communicates with staff at all levels, residents, families, other departments and external stakeholders ensuring an interdisciplinary focus for the care and services provided
  • Other duties as assigned and or indicated in Job Task Inventory


Qualifications:

At Lancaster Long Term Care Residence we take pride in our employees, so your qualifications are important to us. We use them to get to know you and see if we are a good fit for each other. The qualifications needed to join our family at Lancaster Long Term Care Residence are as follows:
  • Bilingual - French and English
  • Current RN certificate of competency from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Comprehensive knowledge of evidence based clinical practices
  • Comprehensive knowledge of long-term care concepts and philosophies
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Policy and program development
  • Must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience working as a RN in the long term care sector
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a Registered Nurse in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a health care setting.
  • Or must have held a Director of Nursing position at a different LTCH without meeting the updated qualifications set out in the Regulation, on the condition that the person has had (3) years full-time experience in the position during the (5) years immediately before being hired at the different LTC home or the equivalent part-time experience in the position during the (7) years immediately before being hired at the different LTCH.
  • Knowledge of RAI-MDS - AIS certified, if not must be completed successfully within one (1) year of being hired.
  • Must have a clear vulnerable sector screen, no older than 6 months, TB test results less than 6 months old, must be able to provide three supervisory references.
  • Lancaster Long Term Care Residence recognizes the importance of immunization to protect our residents, staff and others from COVID-19. As such, subject to any accommodation required by applicable human rights legislation, it will be a condition of employment that all new hires are fully vaccinated having received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada, 14 days before start date.
