We currently have a Regular Full-time opportunity for a Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner in the Tory Trauma Program at our Bayview Campus.

Hours of Work: Weekdays: Days; 8 hours; As per schedule

Summary of Duties

We currently have a Regular Full-time opportunity for a Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner in the Tory Trauma Program at our Bayview Campus. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice role designed to contribute to the quality of patient care through practice, education, research and leadership. In collaboration with the interprofessional team, the nurse practitioner is responsible for leading the provision of person-centred care by completing comprehensive assessments, ordering diagnostic tests and implementing therapeutic plans of care for the management of complex neurosurgical patients. In addition to direct patient care, the NP will provide leadership in the development of quality improvement, policies and procedures, best practices and mentorship to other staff. The Nurse Practitioner reports the Director of Operations.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Practices within the full scope of the Nurse Practitioner role conducting assessments, developing diagnoses and therapeutic plans of care.
  • Promotes wellness and health promotion in order to provide exemplary quality care through the application of advanced clinical and theoretical knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrates sound clinical reasoning and current evidence in decision making, planning and implementing care
  • Collaborates with consulting and interprofessional teams in regards to care and discharge planning.
  • Collaborates with nurses and interprofessional team members to provide innovative learning opportunities to integrate theory, research findings, and technique for advanced patient care.
  • Collaborates with unit leaders (e.g. Advanced Practice Nurse, Patient Care Manager), and staff to advance local, program and organizational goals and objectives.
  • Builds partnerships with community and external stakeholders to support care planning and continuity of care.
  • Serves as a resource and consultant to administration in decision-making, strategic planning and problem-solving processes

Qualifications/Skills
  • Current College of Nurses of Ontario registration in the extended class (EC) as an NP (adult) required
  • Master in Nursing/Nurse Practitioner (MN-NP) or Masters of Science in Nursing with successful completion of a postMaster's Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate Program required
  • Relevant neurosurgical or acute care nursing experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience through roles of advanced practitioner, educator, researcher and leader
  • Excellent complex decision-making skills, interpersonal, team-building, leadership, and oral and written communication skills
  • Experience precepting undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate nursing students, as well as clinical fellows in their clinical experience, and evaluating their performance
