Job Details
JOB SUMMARY:
The Oncology nurse will be involved in all aspects of the oncology program, including patient/family assessment, teaching and administering chemotherapy, and providing supportive and palliative care. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the oncology nurse will participate in the development and implementation of patient treatment plans; quality improvement processes and will support education and research initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current Certificate of Competence with the College of nurses of Ontario
- Completion of Oncology Foundations course from Desouza Institute preferred but enrollment acceptable
- Completion of Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Oncology Course from Desouza Preferred or willing to obtain with one year
- Canadian Nurses Association certification as a Certified Oncology Nurse ( CONC ) preferred. Consideration will be given to candidates willing to obtain within 3 years
- Minimum one year recent Acute care/Oncology experience preferred
- Complex Malignant Hematology course through Desouza , or willing to obtain within 3 years.
- Demonstrated proficiency in IV initiation and Central Venous Access device management
Demonstrated competency in the following skills:
- Demonstrated skill in Initiation and maintenance of IV therapy Demonstrated ability in mentoring/preceptoring of staff Demonstrated ability to work within and lead an interdisciplinary team setting Excellent verbal/written communication skills Functions independently and collaboratively Ability to practice independently using excellent organizational, problem solving skills Good attendance record
