Position Summary

The Collaborative BScN nursing program is in partnership with TMU-Centennial-George Brown College. The successful candidate will be teaching in classroom and laboratory settings in the School of Community and Health Studies. Under the direction of the Chair, the professor will participate in program and course development, course modifications, program advisory committees, program planning and accreditation, applied research and scholarship initiatives, community outreach and on-going future program needs. Ensuring program and course curriculum are current, relevant, evidence-informed, and reflective of best practices in the field. Applications from applicants with a specialization in acute medical/surgical, geriatric, and simulation are particularly encouraged to apply.

 

Responsibilities

  • Teaching a range of courses and assumes clinical, nursing lab, and simulation responsibilities across all programs within collaborative BScN and Bridging to university nursing programs, with expertise in acute medical/surgical, geriatric, and simulation.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication and knowledge of cultural competency in interactions with the public, colleagues, other professionals, and students in internal and external educational settings, and practice settings.
  • Develop, revise, and adapt appropriate learning resources for students.
  • Use a variety of appropriate teaching/learning strategies.
  • Evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes using a variety of techniques.
  • Engage students to create a positive teaching environment in the classroom or lab setting.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work in a team-based work environment, including interprofessional health teams.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students from different health agencies, colleges and universities.
  • Demonstrate current knowledge of acute medical/surgical, geriatrics, simulation, acute maternal/child health, and/or issues and trends related to nursing and interprofessional global environment.
  • Use academic technology effectively to enhance and support virtual/online or in-person learning.
  • Critically examine learning materials and classroom methodologies for discriminatory bias/barriers.
  • Participate in reflective practice for continuing learning and development.
  • Attend meetings, maintain records of student grades/assessments, and participate in faculty and school meetings.
  • Participate in program accreditation (CASN & CNO) planning and implementation.

 

Qualifications/Experience

  • Master’s degree in Nursing required.
  • PhD or doctoral Degree in Nursing or Education preferred.
  • Registered Nurse with current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Evidence of scholarly work including publications, conference presentations, and research projects related to nursing.
  • Relevant Nursing clinical practice experience in acute medical/surgical, geriatric, simulation, and/or acute maternal/infant health with a minimum of at least five years clinical experience required.
  • Demonstrated minimum three years’ experience in classroom teaching through a variety of curriculum delivery modalities, including on-line teaching experience required.
  • Evidence of Simulation training and experience required.
  • Experience in peer-reviewed grant application preferred.
  • Experience in curriculum development, preparing reports required for College Program Quality Review, CNO Program Approval and CASN Accreditation (5–7-year cycles) is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice to meet the needs of our diverse students, staff and college community.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student success strategies in a postsecondary setting as well as knowledge and experience in the use of educational technologies; experience in the development and delivery of blended and online curriculum is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated competency in written, oral and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and conflict management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work positively within a team environment.
