This competition is to hire full-time, permanent Community Health Nurses, working 75 hours bi-weekly, at the Whitehorse Health Centre; an eligibility list will be used for future identical or similar vacancies within the Whitehorse Health Centre.

As a Community Health Nurse (CHN), you will focus on preventative health strategies to promote the health and wellbeing of our community members. We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic, innovative leaders with excellent communication skills. We are committed to a respectful workplace where everyone is valued.

 

Reporting to the Nurse in Charge, you will deliver preventative services in the form of screening, assessment, immunization, education/consultation, and health counselling to individuals and groups. Working as a CHN, you will be part of a team that constantly strives to improve services to the Yukon people.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate in Nursing. Current registration in good standing with a Canadian registered nursing regulatory authority. Recent experience in public health nursing or a related field with emphasis on breastfeeding education, immunization, health protection, illness prevention, health promotion and community development.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability:

 

Candidates should have and may be assessed on:

 

  • Strong knowledge in community health programs. Strong knowledge in immunization delivery. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills, and flexibility. Ability to work independently & within a diverse team. Ability to lead, instruct and counsel. Clear understanding of confidentiality. Knowledge of breastfeeding best practices is considered an asset.

Conditions of Employment: TB Risk Screening; Security Clearance with vulnerable sector; Valid Driver’s Licence; BScN; current Yukon RN registration in good standing; Current CPR-HCP.

 

Job Requirements: Regular exposure to infectious agents; frequent driving; occasional lifting and moving of clients and equipment; visiting clients in their homes. Ability to travel within the Yukon up to 20%.
