What responsibilities will you have in this role?

  • Teaches a range of courses and assumes clinical, nursing lab and simulation responsibilities across all programs within the School of Nursing, with expertise in adult medical-surgical care.
  • Remains current in adult acute medical surgical nursing through consultation with agency and sector representatives, as well as academic colleagues and professional development activities.
  • Provides academic leadership in scholarship activities among colleagues (leaderships, Innovation, research, and service) (CASN Accreditation requirement).
  • Provides academic leadership in the development of an effective learning environment for students through the design and delivery of curriculum.
  • Participates in the work of curriculum development, program advisory and other committees to support programs, research and innovations and the School of Nursing operations.
  • Defines and revises subject/program objectives annually based on evidence-based changes in practice.
  • Devises and evaluates learning outcomes.
  • Creates, develops/selects appropriate learning materials to promote experiential learning and effective in-class and online teaching modalities.
  • Teaches assigned subjects, as well as tutors and advises students.
  • Applies best-practices and evidence-based strategies to evaluate student performance, progress, and achievements in the program.
  • Supports colleagues in preparing reports required for College Quality Assurance-Program Review, CNO Program Approval and CASN Accreditation (5-7-year cycles).
  • Participates in scholarship activities - Leadership, Innovation, Research, and Service. (CASN Accreditation requirement).
  • Be an effective and engaged member of the faculty team in the School of Nursing and College Inter-professional team environments.
  • Contributes to other areas of activity ancillary to the academic programs as needed/requested.  

 

What qualifications do you need for this role?

  • Doctorate degree in Nursing or equivalent program.
  • Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario (with no practice restrictions).
  • Progressive experience and expertise in nursing care in any of the following areas: adult acute medical-surgical health care; adult acute psycho-Geriatric health care conditions; interprofessional practice; simulation education.
  • Prior experience in nursing degree-level theoretical teaching and curriculum development.
  • Demonstrates commitment to the advancement of the Nursing profession and knowledge of current health trends and issues as well as emerging practice changes.
  • Strong evidence of scholarship in Leadership, Innovation, Service and Research.
  • Possesses capabilities for providing training, support, and mentorship to novice faculty.
  • Solid commitment to excellence in teaching and learning through extensive professional experience and proven approach to life-long learning related to teaching, use of technology, inter-professional education, student success and student evaluation.
  • Ability to objectively assess student progress and achievement and to provide coaching and support.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective ability to convey conceptual and practical aspects of subjects to students in ways that respect diverse backgrounds, experience, and learning needs.
  • Commitment to diversity and equity are essential to interact effectively with the College’s diverse student and staff population.
  • Flexibility in adapting to change and in participating in consultative decision-making processes.
