The Clinical Nurse Coordinator will work in the programs as described below: RACE is a Rapid Assessment of Complex Pleural Effusions. The Clinical Coordinator in this program will be assisting and performing minor procedures (thoracentesis, tenckhoff catheter insertions, tenckhoff catheter removals), providing education and teaching on definitive management options (talc pleurodesis and tenckhoff catheters)- for both inpatients and outpatients; following-up with patients that have had newly inserted tenckhoff catheters within 48 hours to ensure homecare has been arranged; collaborating with LHIN representatives to ensure continuity of care for patients going from hospital to home; restocking the procedure room and clinic rooms with supplies. The Esophageal clinic and Motility Lab evaluates patients with esophageal cancer, dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), esophageal motor disorders, symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux (acid reflux), and other challenging-to-diagnose esophageal problems. We also help adjust medications and therapies for patients with reflux disease and monitor patients after lung transplant surgery. As a member of the Esophageal clinic and the Motility team, the responsibilities of the CLINICAL COORDINATOR include: running the esophageal cancer clinics with the physician both at TGH and PM, taking a detailed history and physical, dictating notes, performing the esophageal motility tests, ambulatory pH studies and impedance studies, as well as utilizing and applying current specialized knowledge and expertise on recent advances in nursing practice to facilitate the effective management of clinical activities; performing teaching/educational responsibilities; participating actively in Quality Improvement initiatives and research projects. QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing - Completion of a recognized masters degree nursing program preferred - Certificate of competency (licensure) from the College of Nurses of Ontario - Completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program, Level II Rescuer certification - Up to three (3) years of relevant experience including experience working in an advanced Clinical practice role - Three (3) to Five (5) years Nursing experience in an Acute Care Medical/Surgical Inpatient Unit - Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills - Excellent decision-making and problem solving skills - Excellent time management skills - Excellent teaching skills with the ability to teach one-on-one and/or groups - Ability to function collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and/or independently - Ability to work in a self directed manner - Demonstrated awareness of and adherence to professional and ethical standards - Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand - Computer literacy - Research experience preferred - Membership with the RNAO preferred Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
