Job Posting #913915 Position: Nurse Practitioner; Radiation Medicine Program (RMP) Primary Area of Focus: Palliative Radiation Oncology Program (PROP) Site: Princess Margaret, UHN Department: Collaborative Academic Practice Reports to: Director of Professional Practice Scale/Grade: F0:05 Salary Range: $93,347.00 - $116,669.00 per annum (Commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN Compensation Policy) Hours: 37.5 hours per week - may require some shifts on weekends / statutory holidays Status: Permanent Full-time University Health Network (UHN) is looking for an experienced professional to fill the key role of Nurse Practitioner in our Radiation Medicine Program, with a primary focus in the Palliative Radiation Oncology Program (PROP) , there will be an opportunity to rotate to other clinical areas within the Oncology Program. The Palliative Radiation Oncology Program (PROP) is a globally recognized program within the Radiation Medicine Program, designed to meet the unique needs of patients with cancer requiring urgent palliative radiation therapy. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) functions in an expanded role demonstrating a high level of autonomy while working closely with all members of the inter-professional team. The PROP NP will be a leader in PROP, providing some continuity of care amongst the inter-professional team specializing in palliative radiation therapy. The successful candidate will see new patients referred for palliative radiation treatment from a variety of cancers, as well as selected patients in follow-up. The PROP NP will have an expert skill set to formulate clinical decisions and manage acute symptoms from cancer with along with complications related to palliative radiation treatment. The PROP NP will take the lead in pain management and other supportive measures in the clinic; will be adaptable to a highly variable clinic; provide immediate support for patients and families, and facilitate referrals to community care, all regarding palliative radiation therapy plans and the most appropriate pathway for the patient overall. The PROP NP will play a leadership role in close collaboration with the radiation oncology physicians working in the PROP clinic, in the development of a standard approach to assessment, management and follow-up of patients receiving palliative radiation therapy. The PROP NP will lead a PROP review clinic, and be the primary PROP liaison for patients with high problem/complex symptom management issues, in collaboration with the PROP radiation oncology team.

Qualifications:

- Completion of a Master's degree in Nursing - Current College of Nurses of Ontario Registration in the Extended Class (EC) as a NP (adult) or NP (Primary Health Care) required or pending. - Demonstrated expertise as a Nurse Practitioner preferred, ideally with oncology patients, palliative care and/or radiation therapy - Up to five (5) years of relevant experience; including three (3) years' experience working with cancer patients preferred. - Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution - Certification in Oncology Nursing preferred - Membership in Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO) and other organizations relevant to the role preferred - Knowledge of data management programs an asset - Effective verbal and written communication skills - Effective interpersonal and customer services skills - Excellent organization and time management skills - Excellent decision making, problem recognition and problem solving skills - Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills - Program planning and evaluation methodology skills an asset - Commitment to collaborative practice - Ability to work effectively independently and under stressful conditions - Ability to work in a self directed manner - Ability to manage and prioritize multiple demands - Ability to utilize information technology - Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support required Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
