As a member of the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse assesses, coordinates, provides and evaluates patient care according to the 5 South Core competencies and Standards of Practice. The RN will participate in continued education, completion and maintenance of certifications associated with the identified nursing skills and completed learning plans to achieve these goals.
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
  • Current BCLS certification
  • Recent minimum 2 years experience (within the last 2 years) in cardiovascular nursing or critical care nursing
  • Demonstrated skills in IV starts, venipucture, ECG, and pacemaker rhythm interpretation/treatment, ABG interpretation, adult code blue management, and shock
  • Demonstrated experience with IV starts, venipuncture, defibrillation and initiation of transcutaneous/transvenous pacing
  • Demonstrated, current knowledge of the assessment and management of an acute vascular cardiac population
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the nursing care planning process
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize problem-solving and critical thinking techniques effectively in an acute cardiac surgical ward and step-down unit environment
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively with patients, families and other members of the health care team; demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills
