Indigenous Professor, Nursing

Mohawk College is future ready, deeply rooted in our community and ready to meet the current and future demands of healthcare. Mohawk's Nursing Program consists of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Practical Nursing; and Personal Support Worker Programs over several campuses. We are currently seeking full-time Indigenous Professor to join our team of innovative, motivated and passionate educators. Mohawk College is committed to responding to the TRC's Calls to Action by increasing Indigenous Faculty in the Nursing program.

The Nursing faculty is regionally recognized as leaders among community colleges, and are committed to continuous program improvements and embrace a learning culture to promote growth and development. Faculty who teach in the Nursing program provide students with the tools needed to be "job ready". Reporting to the Associate Dean, Nursing, the successful candidate will be required to teach full-time across the Nursing Portfolio. Preference will be given to candidates who self-identify as Indigenous. Indigenous scholars with a background related to the health of Indigenous populations, and demonstrated experience in education, Indigenous health policy and respectful intercultural collaboration with Indigenous communities in Canada are encouraged to apply. Applicants with expertise in other areas also will be considered. This position will assist the Nursing Program to continue to meet the TRC's Calls to Action for healthcare education, and also contribute to Mohawk College's strategy for equity, diversity and inclusion in the Nursing program.

Responsibilities:
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

Delivering student-centered instruction by establishing environments conducive to learning and growth.
Promoting student success by identifying their strengths, learning styles and areas for development.
Participating in reflective practice and continuous professional development
Contribute actively to the Program's vision and mission, and being part of the success of the college
Teaching a variety of courses in the nursing program potentially including the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, the Practical Nursing, and the Personal Support Worker programs upon assignment by the Associate Dean.
Designing instruction through curriculum, simulation and practicums, across several programs of study working with a diverse group of faculty experts.
Enhancing educational delivery through the use of technology and use of a variety of teaching and learning strategies, including online learning, at all delivery sites.
Participating in program quality assurance activities.
Participating in program, divisional and college-wide recruitment and marketing activities.
Create a positive learning and working environment for students and colleagues.
Use a variety of techniques to evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have:

Master's Degree (completed or in progress) in Nursing is required; PhD in Nursing is also welcome.
Proof of registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Minimum of five years of current, diverse experience in nursing.
Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous Health Policy
Experience working with Indigenous communities and/or client groups in a health care setting
Demonstrated knowledge with, and experience of, simulation and virtual reality best practices in nursing education.
Proven experience with curriculum design and evaluation, and development of learning outcomes.
Demonstrated knowledge of critical anti-discriminatory pedagogy.
Demonstrated knowledge of transformative education theory.
Evidence of ongoing and relevant professional development and scholarly work.
Post-Graduate Certificate with a focus in teaching, such as the Teaching and Learning Certificate, or The Nurse Educator Certification Program (CASN) is an asset.
Ability to demonstrate knowledge of current and future practice of technology in education and the nursing profession.
Demonstrated exceptional presentation, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a part of an academic team
Strong commitment to academic excellence, student success, and the ability to support Mohawk College's Strategic Vision
Previous post-secondary level teaching experience in an academic environment is an asset.
Experience with online and blended learning is an asset.
Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.

The successful applicant will be creative, passionate and possess the ability to relate theoretical knowledge to practical applications to provide a meaningful learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds, learning styles and ages.

Professors hired at Mohawk College must be prepared to teach with a learner-centered approach and to assist in the development and application of alternative delivery methods. The incumbent may be assigned to teach at any College Campus and may be scheduled to teach between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm Monday to Friday, in online, blended, virtual or classroom settings.
