The internship opportunity offers an exciting career opportunity for Registered Nurses who want to work in the Operating Room (OR) but require specialized OR training and education to be successful. Grand River Hospital will sponsor successful candidates to participate in the in-hospital integrated practicum OR program while orientating to their new unit. Candidates selected to participate in this 12 week program will be provided with a conditional offer of employment upon successful completion of the program. Upon successful completion of the program, the nurse will be hired into the OR and must commit to a minimum of two years of employment in the OR.

  • Current registration and in good standings with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Ability to achieve the educational requirements to receive the Operating Room certification
  • Recent surgical nursing experience is preferred
  • Familiar with standards, policies, procedures and physician protocols for the Operating Room is an asset
  • Familiar with care of the perioperative patients of all ages
  • CPR certification required
  • Commitment to a minimum of two (2) years of employment with the Operating Room
  • Can meet physical demands of standing, lifting and being on call
  • Ability to deal with physiologically/psychosocially stressed patients in an active, high turnover area
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills required to interact with patients, health professionals, other service providers and families essential
