The Nursing Innovation & Development Manager reporting to the Senior Director Nursing Practice & Education is responsible for leading the development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-informed innovations and change processes to strengthen the nursing workforce through practice, education, leadership and scholarship across Unity Health Toronto. Acting as a network corporate practice leader, facilitator and resource, this role collaborates with the Interprofessional Practice leadership team across the three sites of Unity Health Toronto to provide exemplary strategic leadership for innovative nursing initiatives that support the achievement of Unity Health Toronto's (UHT) Inter-professional Practice, Corporate and Education strategic directions. The Nursing Innovation & Development Manager will also actively foster internal and external partnerships to support knowledge exchange for system improvement and harmonization.
The primary responsibilities of the Nursing Innovation & Development Manager include:

Leading the creation, implementation and evaluation of innovative programs and activities that foster the development of nurses and nursing students across Unity Health Toronto, including but not limited to:

Clinical Education, continuous learning and professional development;
Mentorship, preceptorship, and leadership;
Models of care and roles that maximize nursing knowledge and scope of practice

Providing change leadership, including expert stakeholder engagement, to support strategic nursing and interprofessional education initiatives across Unity Health Toronto, with a special focus on those initiatives requiring integration and harmonization of structures and processes across sites;
Representing Unity Health Toronto in the external community (committees, conferences, etc.) to build partnerships, translate new knowledge and innovations, and promote a culture of scholarship.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Identifies and implements evidence-informed strategies that strengthen the development of the nursing workforce from novice to expert through practice, education, leadership and scholarship;
Creates, implements and manages short and long term plans which advance innovations in nurse and nursing student development, including, but not limited to;

Continuous learning, professional development and education;
Mentorship, preceptorship, and leadership
Models of care and roles that maximize nursing knowledge and scope of practice

Leads externally-funded nursing workforce retention and recruitment initiatives (e.g. Nursing Graduate Guarantee, Clinical Extern Program, etc.), in partnership with Human Resources leadership;
Partners with team members and key stakeholders to advance strategic corporate nursing education and learning initiatives using a collaborative leadership style and grounded in principles of human-centred design
Ensures interpretation of standards of practice of College of Nurses and professional associations and integration into the nursing education and related policies and procedures;
Uses project management and change leadership skills and methodologies in examining and re-engineering initiatives, procedures, formulating policy, and developing & implementing new guidelines, practices and procedures, where needed;
Actively seeks and secures funding (i.e., grants) to test and scale nursing innovations aligned with portfolio priorities;
Engages in knowledge translation and mobilization by ensuring that innovations are measured, sustained, outcomes improved and findings disseminated;
Represents Unity Health Toronto in the external community (committees, conferences, etc.) to build partnerships, translate new knowledge and innovations, and promote scholarship.
Supports, participates in, and occasionally leads, interprofessional practice based research, when aligned with portfolio activities
Supports the education of future healthcare professionals through preceptoring, teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level

Qualifications:

Master's Degree in either Nursing, Adult Education, Health/Business Administration or Quality Improvement required
Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Clinical Appointment with a Faculty of Nursing or eligible for appointment
Three (3) years' previous change leadership or management experience and educational leadership, and professional practice experience preferred
Minimum five (5) years' previous clinical experience required
Sound knowledge of the professional and regulatory environment that influences clinical practice and education required
Strong change management and project management skills required
Well-developed leadership competencies (negotiation, active listening, participative leadership style, ability to inspire others, articulate a vision for interprofessional collaborative practice
Demonstrated evidence of strong knowledge on regulatory standards, organizational policies/guidelines and evidence based practices
Highly motivated, self-directed with demonstrated ability to provide leadership within and across an interprofessional team in complex adaptive systems.
Demonstrated experience leading teams/projects across a multi-site organization
Strong change management and project management skills required
Current membership in related professional interest group or association preferred
Excellent oral and written abilities required
Excellent computer literacy skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint)
