Job Description

Salary: $31.268-31.802
Shifts: 8 hours
Days, Evenings (with on-call), Weekends, and Holidays
Expected average number of hours: 15 hours per week (not a guarentee of hours)

In recognition of the shortage of qualified Operating Room nurses, Cambridge Memorial Hospital is offering to sponsor nurses registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario who are interested in working in the Operating Room. Candidates selected to participate in this 12-week full-time program will be provided with a conditional offer of permanent part-time employment upon completion of the program. Please note that certain aspects of the academic portion of the course may be completed virtually. To successfully complete this course, candidates must meet both academic and clinical evaluation standards. For internal candidates, successful completion of the 60 tour (450 hour) trial period is required prior to final confirmation in this role. External candidates will be subject to the 3-month probationary period prior to the final confirmation in this role.
As an RPN in the Operating Rooms at Cambridge Memorial Hospital you will:

Provide nursing services in an operating room environment as a member of a multidisciplinary surgical team performing varied surgical interventions.
Work in the Scrub Nurse position for various surgical procedures.
Enhance quality of life from the perspective of the patient/family.
Consult, confer, and collaborate with other members of the surgical team.
Demonstrate continuous improvement and best practice approach in nursing practice and patient care.
Maintain and advance your own clinical competence.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have current General Class (Practicing) Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Must have current BLS Certification
A minimum of 1 year recent Inpatient Surgical, or medicine unit experience recommended
Demonstrated good communication skills/command of English, both verbal and written
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment
Diploma Practical in Nursing, required
Evidence of good work ethics and an excellent attendance record
Demonstrated knowledge and successful application of adult learning principles an asset
Must be able to work independently and have the ability to work collaboratively with other professions / disciplines in a team environment
Critical thinking skills with ability to reflect on appropriate actions acquired through education and professional practice experience
Expert communication skills with clients, families, the inter-professional team and all other healthcare personnel required
Ability to work in a fast paced environment and work flexible hours including on-call, holidays and weekends.

Please note: There is a 24 month return of service requirement as a regular/permanent part-time employee within the Cambridge Memorial Hospital specialty department for which they have been trained. The post-basic training program requires full time attendance
