Position Summary
The RPN in the Outpatient department is responsible for providing direct patient care in accordance with the mission, vision and values of the hospital. The RPN will adhere to the hospital policies. Direct care involved but not limited to: medication administration, triaging of patients in the clinic, wound care, and VAC therapy. The RPN will be required to support a variety of outpatient clinics, including, but not limited to, gynaecology, general surgery, hand clinic, urology, ophthalmology, and fracture clinic.

Qualifications
Education:• Current registration with the CNO• Completion of a registered practical nurse program at an accredited college is required.• Current certificate of competence to practice as a R.P.N in Ontario required.
Experience:• Minimum three (3) recent years Cast Technician experience required (fracture clinic).• Minimum three (3) recent years of clinical hands on knowledge of the Musculoskeletal system, including anatomy and the ability to provide current and evidence-based health teaching• IV certified and hold a current BCLS required• Surgical experience is an asset• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with flexibility with high patient volumes, changing needs, and timed appointments• Knowledge in basic splinting, orthopaedic emergencies, immobilization of limbs, traction cast care, cast application and removal & reductions required (fracture/hand clinic). • Additional nursing skills required: recent experience with complex wound/care, assessments/applications and maintenance of VAC therapy• Working knowledge of aseptic principles, including tray set up and assisting surgeons with minor procedures
Competencies:• Must be able to perform all the duties in the position description• Must be able to bend, stoop, push/pull without restriction• Ability to work as a productive team member is required• Demonstrated ability to organize patient care activities, remain flexible and able to adapt to change• The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills as evidenced by recent performance appraisals• Demonstrated excellence attendance record
Responsibilities• Meets the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of nursing practice for RPN'S and functions with the hospital policies and procedures• Collaborates with the Team Leader• Works closely with the surgeon and care team to develop and deliver on an individualized plan of care for each patient• Involves the patient as a partner in their care• Keeps the Team Leader/ surgeon informed of changes to the plan of care or patient condition
