Assistant Professor, Teaching Scholar Track in Advanced Health Care Practice (AHCP)
The Faculty of Health Sciences Western University, invites applications for a probationary Teaching Scholar appointment, effective July 1, 2023, or as negotiated. This probationary appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor and will lead to consideration of continuing status and promotion to Associate Professor, Teaching Scholar at the end of the probationary period (maximum 6 years). The workload for the Teaching Scholar is 60% teaching, 20% educational scholarship, and 20% service. The successful candidate will be appointed in one of the six Schools within the Faculty (Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Studies, Kinesiology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy), depending on the applicant's area of teaching, scholarship, and discipline.
The first program of its kind in Canada, the Advanced Health Care Practice is a Faculty-wide one-year (three terms) course-based master's program that uses primarily online education, supplemented with in-person hands on residency periods, where appropriate. The AHCP program offers two degrees and eight Fields of study: a Master of Health Sciences in 1) Health Equity and Sustainability or 2) Applied Health Sciences; and a Master of Clinical Science in 1) Comprehensive Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, 2) Interprofessional Pain Management, 3) Clinical Epidemiology and Research Management, 4) Wound Healing, 5) Sport and Exercise Medicine, or 6) Upper Extremity Rehabilitation. The program is interprofessional, based on adult and active learning principles, and consolidates learning through experiential capstone projects with community partners. Western is deeply committed to the scholarship of education through its Centre for Teaching and Learning, Centre for Educational Research & Innovation and the Health Professional Education Field in our Health and Rehabilitation Sciences program.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD, or equivalent, and have a background related to at least one of the Schools in FHS. The successful candidate will have demonstrated 1) excellence and varied experiences in online teaching, 2) enthusiasm for quality and innovative educational practices, 3) a track record of educational scholarship that includes peer-reviewed publications, and national/international exposure through conference presentations or the development of open educational resources, as examples. Evidence of educational leadership would be beneficial. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated capacity to contribute substantively to an inclusive and diverse academic community. The successful candidate will be expected to teach online and face-to-face mainly at the graduate level but also at the undergraduate level; contribute to course and curriculum development; participate in relevant educational scholarly activities, including the acquisition of funding and dissemination of scholarship; and engage in service to the School and the Faculty of Health Sciences. In short, the successful candidate will be an academic with demonstrated teaching and educational scholarly activity, creativity, and leadership ability. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
