POSITION SUMMARY:

The Registered Practical Nurse is responsible for incorporating the College of Nurses of Ontario and unit specific standards and competencies into nursing practice and is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team. The RPN is accountable individually for their decisions and actions. The RPN will seek consultation with the RN or Charge Nurse in client situations that are beyond their scope of practice. The Registered Practical Nurse provides care to clients who are individuals, or groups of individuals, including family members and significant others.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current registration with the College of Nurse of Ontario required, AND
  • Practical Nursing Diploma from an accredited college program with evidence of IV medication administration as part of the basic educational curriculum

OR
  • Practical Nursing Diploma from an accredited college program and IV medication administration certificate from an accredited college program if this content was not included in the basic diploma educational curriculum

OR
  • Practical Nursing Certificate from an accredited college program, a medication administration certificate and an IV medication administration certificate from an accredited college program-Practical Nursing Diploma required
  • Current BCLS/HCP certification required
  • Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity and expertise in the care of seniors and their families
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach training preferred
  • Minimum of 8 months nursing experience in a medical/surgical setting required
  • Previous experience in nephrology, urology, peritoneal or hemodialysis, or transplant nursing will be given preference
  • Completion of Epidural/PCA pain management therapy course
  • Ability to function to the full scope of practice as per the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, maintain good interpersonal relationships and set own workload priorities
  • Committed to patient centred care
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and organization skills and the ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and continuing education
  • Good work performance and attendance record are essential

HOURS OF WORK:

Rotating shifts and extended hours Monday to Sunday; Days, Nights, Weekends and Holidays

WAGE RATE

Hourly: $33.11... $34.53... $35.97 (plus 14% in lieu of benefits)
