Registered Nurse - Safer Opioid Supply (SOS) – Community Shelter

 

One Full-Time Permanent Position, 1.0 FTE (35 hours/week),

General Responsibilities:

 

We are currently seeking a Registered Nurse to work in our Safer Opioid Supply (SOS) program within our Community Shelter Hotel Site(s). The SOS program provides clients using street-based drug supply, who are at high risk of overdose in the community and of medical complications due to drug use, a regulated supply of prescription opioids through an MD or NP to reduce overdose and overdose deaths. The SOS program provides primarily daily dispense services and where/when possible observed dosing and rapid titration to individuals who are not suitable candidates for the daily dispense model of the program. The RN will work within the full scope of practice as a member of the interprofessional team. They will work within a harm reduction framework to provide intake, assessment and follow up functions for SOS clients and work with the broader SOS team in providing administrative and evaluation support for the program. This program has been funded only to March, 2024.

 

 

 

The SOS Registered Nurse is accountable to the Supervisor, Urban Health - Harm Reduction Services.

 

 

 

Specific Responsibilities:

 

  • Work on the observed dosing for clients who cannot receive daily dispense of medications at pharmacy. This will involve administering procedural checklist prior to administering medication to ensure dose can be given; monitoring clients following administration for adverse effects Provide health and harm reduction education as needed and collaborate with PQW Mobile Harm Reduction teams on-site for client care needs Perform assessments on skin and soft tissue infections and either refer to RN for wound care or perform minor wound care as needed. Liaise with relevant shelter hotel partners to coordinate and ensure high quality client care Engage in collaborative community relationships to facilitate patient access to services. Charting client assessments, procedures, follow up per CNO standard

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from a recognized program Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario Experience in a community setting or combination of community, hospital, or public health settings. Knowledge of harm reduction principles, injection drug use and associated health issues Experience in primary care or street/outreach nursing an asset Demonstrated ability to de-escalate conflict an asset Confidence in asserting and maintaining strong boundaries Proficiency in the use of electronic medical records Experience in program development, implementation monitoring and evaluation an asset Strong oral and written communication skills Respects and values the diversity of communities and individuals Previous SOS experience is considered an asset and is preferred, but not required

Compensation: $62,419 to $74,148 per annum plus Group Benefits and HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan)
