We currently have a Regular Full-Time opportunity for a Registered Nurse position in the Odette Cancer Centre department at our Bayview campus.

Hours of Work:

Weekdays: Days, 8 hrs; As per schedule

Summary of Duties

Nurses who are part of the Resource Team will be expected to provide care to patients in several disease site groups; providing a broad range of ambulatory oncology nursing care services for cancer patients and their families both in the clinical environment and over the telephone at the Odette Cancer Centre. Perform all aspects of patient care processes prescribed by physicians &/or Nurse Practitioners in compliance with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and the Division of Oncology Nursing. Nursing responsibilities include comprehensive health assessment, development of supportive & therapeutic patient & family relationships, management of cancer symptoms & treatment side effects, teaching & coaching, facilitating continuity of care & navigation of the health care system, and support with clinical decision making & patient advocacy. The Odette ambulatory oncology RN is expected to engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives, leadership opportunities, and on-going professional development.

The RN will collaborate with the interprofessional team in the management of oncology patients and their families throughout the trajectory of their cancer care to help address and manage physical, emotional, practical, psychological, informational, social, and spiritual needs. The RN is accountable for the provision of compassionate and high quality nursing care through the use of evidence-based nursing interventions in compliance with oncology nursing competencies and CNO Standards of practice. Supporting patients and their families beyond the clinic environment through extensive telephone practice is critical for the supportive management of the patients undergoing cancer treatment and will be a core focus of nursing work within this role.

Qualifications/Skills
  • Current registration with College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred
  • Experience in oncology nursing is strongly preferred
  • Experience in ambulatory care nursing &/or Telepractice preferred
  • Canadian Nurses Association certification as Certified Oncology Nurse CON(C) an asset
  • Must be flexible, adaptable, and have the ability to prioritize
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills necessary
  • Demonstrated commitment to on-going education and professional development important
  • Computer literacy and typing an asset
  • CPR -Basic provider certification required
