Job Summary:

The footcare nurse with VON is expected to build therapeutic relationships with the clients served.

The footcare nurse will provide care according to the established care plan or medical directive of each person. The footcare nurse is expected to use the skills of observation, assessment, nursing diagnosis and counseling to support the whole person, ensuring safety at all times.

Client care includes utilizing skills included but not limited to foot hygiene, routine maintenance of the feet, cutting and filing of toe nails and additional skills related to assessments associated with diabetes and peripheral vascular diseases; care of diabetic foot ulcers. Ideally, the candidate has basic footcare certification or is willing to obtain it. Experience would be an asset but is not required.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide and manage high quality, appropriate and cost effective footcare to clients and their families in the home and clinic settings.
  • Teach and delegate tasks to clients and family members in accordance with the standards and scope of practice as determined by VON and the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Comply with all standards, policies, procedures and legislative requirements to enusre a high level of infection prevention and control is maintained.
  • Participate as a member of the health care team in relevant committees and working groups

Qualification:
  • Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification will be requested
  • Preference will be given to nurses who have basic footcare certification or advanced footcare certification.
  • Knowledge of community resources an asset
  • Excellent assessment, teaching, problem solving and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team
  • Must have personal vehicle and possess both a current driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance
  • A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required upon the start of your employment
  • A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check is required
  • Ability to speak French is an asset in French Designated areas
  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Fast-paced Environment; Attention to Detail; Lift and carry using appropriate lifting techniques; Bend, push, pull, grip, reach, kneel, crouch using good body mechanics; Walk, sit, stand, climb stairs; fine hand movements.
