Through our Withdrawal Management Program, we provide a safe environment for clients as they experience withdrawal symptoms; ensuring a calm, respectful and supportive environment as clients undertake the difficult work of moving forward in their recovery journeys.

As part of this multi-disciplinary team, you will support clients staying in our short-term Withdrawal Management Beds by providing crisis management and encouragement while ensuring a calm and respectful environment for all.

Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 2 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:
  • What you'll be making - $62.00 per hour
  • When you'll work - Day shifts, flexible hours to be scheduled Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (could be a few hours per day 5 days per week, 2-3 full days per week)
  • What your benefits will be - if agreed upon hours of work exceed 48-hours per bi weekly period then after a 90-day waiting period, the successful candidate would be eligible for a 20% prescription drug benefit
  • Your pension plan - Immediately eligible for optional enrolment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)

HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:
  • Retain clinical competence through relevant evidence-based research and legislation.
  • Demonstrate ability, commitment to and knowledge of community addictions and mental health care.
  • Provide non-urgent, health care services within the NP's full scope of practice to clients who encounter barriers to accessing primary health care. Consults with collaborative physicians for clients who have unstable/complex health conditions.
  • Participate in the development of and work under current medical directives for the program.
  • Provide and evaluate holistic patient care based on advance nursing and medical management knowledge and skills.
  • Exhibit knowledge of evidence-informed guidelines, legislation, regulation and organizational policies when prescribing controlled drugs/substances (CDS).
  • Demonstrate an understanding of best practices related to the use of CDS and of other pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapeutic options.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, decision-making, problem-solving, conflict management and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team environment.
  • Perform comprehensive care using advanced health assessment, physical examination, therapeutic management, consultation, collaboration and referrals in accordance to the Practice Standard: Nurse Practitioner (2018).
  • Maintain client records for accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Support the health needs of individuals with a history of addictions, mental health and other chronic illnesses and refer to specialists and other community agencies.
  • Demonstrate ability to deal effectively with sensitive issues with clients and families using a harm-reduction and trauma-informed approach.
  • Determine the need for follow-up appointments and assist with transfer of care to permanent primary health care services.
  • Work in partnership with primary care providers, community agencies and programs.
  • Coordinate service provision with other health care partners in the development of community care plans and wrap-around services.
  • Proficient in computer skills and experience with electronic medical record systems (i.e. PS Suites).

Vaccination Requirements

CMHA Thames Valley Addiction & Mental Health Services requires that all staff members and service providers be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with the rare exemption of those individuals who cannot be vaccinated due to approved exemptions (medical reasons or religious grounds as recognized in the Ontario Human Rights Code). Proof of full vaccination or approval of exemption will be required; further details will be provided to those candidates moving forward in the recruitment process.

Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements

We re q uire the following qualifications:
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse (in the Extended Class)
  • Successful completion of the Prescribing Narcotics and Controlled Substances course
  • Current certificate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Minimum 2-3 years' experience of community health care and/or primary care experience (required)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with clients who live with multiple challenges related to marginalization, mental illness, substance use, complex health challenges, street level sex work, poverty, homelessness, and trauma
  • Extensive knowledge of community resources, service & support programs, and barriers clients face in accessing same
  • Working knowledge of a variety of treatment, intervention, and support strategies
  • Computer literacy
  • Valid Driver's License, adequate insurance and access to a vehicle to carry out job duties
  • Current, clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)

We prefer the following qualifications:
  • Master's Degree
  • Suboxone on-line education program
  • Experience in addiction medicine and harm reduction
