Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Employee Health and Wellness, the Occupational Health Nurse will be part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team focused on the implementation and administration of Wellness Services and Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures. This position will assist in the development of a comprehensive wellness strategy for Grand River Hospital (GRH) and will be responsible for developing wellness initiatives for hospital employees. The position will play a key role as a subject matter expert in the area of mental health as it relates to the workplace.

Responsibilities:

This role will also be responsible for assisting with various occupational health duties including; conducting new employee pre-placement health reviews, immunizations, providing first aid, handling scheduled and unscheduled health office appointments, carrying out medical surveillance, responding to telephone and email inquiries, etc. The occupational health nurse may also be required to provide case management for employees who are on short-term and long-term disability including the coordination of early and safe return to work. The incumbent will need to collaborate with department managers, directors, Human Resources, unions, medical practitioners, WSIB, Insurers and other community organizations to administer and resolve situations related to employee illness, modified work, short term and long term disability. You must have the capability to lead yourself, engage others, achieve results, develop coalitions and conduct systems transformation.

Other information:
  • Current RN certificate of competence from College of Nurses of Ontario

Only those with Canadian Certification in Occupational Health COHN(C) will be considered, or who can obtain certification within a year
  • Project management experience
  • Sound knowledge of mental health as it relates to the workplace
  • Experience with Employee Family Assistance Program
  • Previous experience with crisis management and risk assessment
  • Strong assessment skills
  • Disability case management experience
  • Excellent time management skills in a busy work environment.
  • Ability to interpret and comply with relevant legislation (Public Hospital Health Act, OH&S Act, WSIB Act, Human Rights)
  • Knowledge of OHA Communicable Disease Surveillance Protocols and proficiency in immunizations
  • Current CPR certificate
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and be a self starter
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Computer literate, experience with Parklane systems preferred
