We currently have a Regular Part-time (0.4 FTE) opportunity for a Registered Practical Nurse in the Transfusion Medicine and Tissue Bank at our Bayview campus.

Hours of Work:

Weekdays: Days & Evenings; 8hrs; As per schedule

Summary of Duties

Responsible for direct patient care to patients requiring blood products, IVIG and iron infusions and therapeutic phlebotomies within a Primary Nursing care delivery model within their scope of practice. The RPN supports the philosophy of Patient Focused Care concept and principles and the Mission and Values of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. The RPN works closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications/Skills
  • Current Ontario College of Nurses Registration
  • RPN Diploma
  • Current BCLS certificate required
  • Oncology experience preferred
  • Venipuncture and IV Certification required
  • Completed Advanced Nursing Competency in Transfusion
  • Knowledge of Positive Patient Identification essential
  • Knowledge of patient safety principles required
  • Demonstrated effective ability in: interpersonal relationships; oral and written communication skills; organizational skills; priority setting skills; problem solving; decision making; facilitating team work; conflict resolution
  • Proven ability to handle stressful environment in a positive manner
  • Proven ability to function independently and as an active member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to adapt to a multi-focused, fast-changing and stressful environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and professional development within the past year
  • Ability to integrate and apply critical thinking skills to patient care in collaboration with the RNs and other members of the health care team
