Home to three of UHN's major program groupings Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, Transplantation, and Surgery and Critical Care, our highly skilled teams and dedicated volunteers are committed to UHN's vision of achieving global impact. 9ES is a 24-bed, General Surgery/Surgical Oncology unit built on a strong foundation of interprofessional teamwork, dedicated to providing high quality person-centered care. The adult patient population includes elective and emergency admissions of surgical and non-surgical patients. Our focus is surgical oncology, related to gastrointestinal cancers, hepatobiliary diseases and colorectal disorders. The unit is comprised of both Level 1 (ward) and Level 2 (acute care unit/step-down) beds. This is a high acuity, fast-paced unit with the opportunity to practice advanced assessment skills, enhance critical thinking and further develop discharge planning skills through our interprofessional model of care. As a member of the General Surgery team on 9ES, the Registered Nurse will perform duties that are consistent with the job classification and/or clinical specialty. The principal responsibilities include: assessment - systematically collecting data about the health of the patient for initial screening, on-going or selected in-depth assessment on order to determine diagnosis; planning - identifying priorities, target dates, strategies or interventions in order to contribute to the individualized care plan and achieves optimal outcome for the patient; implementation - safely and effectively performing the strategies and interventions directed by the care plan; evaluation - systematically evaluating the extent to which the best possible outcomes have been achieved. Qualifications: - B.Sc.N preferred - Current Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario - Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) certification - Completion of a step-down course preferred - Minimum two (2) years recent/direct experience in Surgical/Medical Nursing - Strong interpersonal and communication skills - Excellent organization and management skills - Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code POSTED DATE: October 27 , 2022 Closing Date: Until Filled Only hospital employees, who have successfully completed their probationary period, have maintained satisfactory attendance in accordance with UHN's attendance management program and possess all the required experience and qualifications will be given first consideration.
