What you’ll do

The Director of Care is a leadership position that manages the nursing team in a long-term care facility and oversees the methods by which resident care is implemented. In this role, you will play a key role in leading initiatives related to resident care and ensuring that the most effective practices are in place.

The Director of Care is responsible for ensuring that the nursing staff has everything needed to provide quality resident care, including medications and supplies. They must also ensure that a consistent system of care is in place and that the quality of care provided by all staff remains high. The Director of Care will also works with management in planning health and safety initiatives.

It is important for the Director of Care to be present in the facility, working with staff and demonstrating leadership skills on a daily basis. You may also need to guide and mentor new employees as they come on board or help them through difficult times. It is important that you build good relationships with other members of leadership so that ideas can be openly discussed and solutions developed together.

Minimum requirements

  • Appropriate current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse

Bonus qualifications

  • Supervisory experience in a health care setting
  • Experience in long-term care, with comprehensive knowledge of duties
  • Experience with falls and harm reduction strategies
  • Demonstrated experience with WSIB management and other aspect of Occupational Health and Safety
