Summary:
The Out-patient Oncology Nurse Practitioner RN (EC) is an integral member of the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre team. The Nurse Practitioner is a self-directed advanced practice nurse prepared at the graduate and post graduate level, who functions in an expanded nursing role in a collaborative practice model. Working in collaboration with a physician or group of physicians the RN (EC) manages, directs and provides comprehensive care for a select malignant breast and lung patient population in a collaborative interprofessional team environment. The nurse practitioner demonstrates autonomy by assuming responsibility and accountability to independently communicate a diagnosis, prescribe drugs and order a range of diagnostic tests within the scope of practice. . The RN (EC) will provide care that is specific to the malignant solid tumor population; including breast and lung diagnosis. This includes antineoplastic treatments as well as follow-up assessment and management. This is a senior nursing leadership position within the domains of direct clinical care, organizational leadership, education, research, and consultation.'
Other information:
Completion of a recognized Masters degree program in Nursing required
Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as RN(EC) required
CON(C) required
Eligibility for cross appointment with McMaster Faculty of Nursing required
Five (5) years recent experience in Hematology / Oncology required
Membership in Nurses Association of Ontario organizations relevant to the role
Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support
Experience in and or understanding of nursing research, program planning and evaluation methodology
Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to GRH standards
Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task
Compliance with confidentiality requirements
Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated coaching, mentoring skills as well as superior presentation and consultative skills
Knowledge of applicable legislative, GRH and/or departmental standards
Client service oriented, ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate differences in opinions, backgrounds and characteristics
Commitment to collaborative practice
Ability to utilize information technology
Demonstrated teaching and mentoring skills;
Strong awareness and utilization of clinical best practice and evidence based care
Good attendance record
