POSITION SUMMARY: 
The Satellite is a community-based opiate addiction treatment program. The Satellite provides comprehensive services to people who are facing challenges related to their use of opiate drugs. Services offered include opiate agonist therapy (OAT), counselling, case management, nursing care and health education, a drop-in resource center, meal program, recreational activities, space for peer support and community building, and access to resources such as needle exchange, food bank, and clothing. Satellite takes a long-term, trauma-informed, harm-reduction focused approach to providing these services.
The Nurse plays an integral role in the delivery of comprehensive opiate treatment services. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, the nurse, in collaboration with the physician and other members of the team, provides addiction and substance use related health services.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•    Contributes to an interdisciplinary team in the delivery of comprehensive opiate addiction services 
•    Delivers responsive, accessible, and flexible service from a harm reduction approach
•    Completes health assessments to inform service planning and provides the following services under the direction of the physician, including: blood work, health screening, wound care and vaccinations
•    Liaises with internal and external health and social service providers to coordinate client access to health services
•    Advocates for clients within the program and broader health system
•    Coordinates lab pick-ups and results
•    Assists in the supervision and collection of urine drug screens
•    Maintains the inventory of medical supplies and equipment, including the vaccine fridge in accordance with Public Health standards
•    Maintains first aid and emergency medication onsite
•    Provides health education, health promotion, supportive counselling and/or crisis intervention to clients 
•    Coordinates and delivers smoking cessation program
•    Maintains accurate clinical records and completes reporting required by regulatory bodies, funders and supervisor
•    Actively participates in supervision, clinical consultations, and team meetings
•    Works collaboratively with the team/agency in the development, delivery and evaluation of services
•    Maintains relationships with community partners 
•    Adheres to all agency and program policies and procedures
•    Engages with stakeholders and participates in working groups and committees as appropriate and/or as directed

QUALIFICATIONS:
•    Current registration and license with the College of Nurses of Ontario
•    Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a recognized university
•    Member of RNAO
•    BCLS and First Aid Certification required 
•    Phlebotomy experience and proficiency is required
•    Experience coordinating, implementing, and providing vaccinations 
•    Minimum 3 years of experience working with clients with substance use and mental health issues
•    Experience working within a primary care or community health care setting considered an asset 
•    A strong working understanding of the principles of harm reduction and trauma informed care
•    Demonstrated skill and competence in establishing supportive, trusting relationships with people who use drugs
•    Knowledge of Toronto health, social services, mental health and addiction resources
•    Strong understanding of opioid use/dependence, treatment options, and current trends
•    Experience collaborating with and advocating within the following systems is considered an asset: hospital/medical/treatment settings, child welfare, mental health, social assistance, and criminal justice
•    Recently demonstrated knowledge and skills in assessment, engagement, supportive counselling, and crisis intervention
•    Ability to work with a variety of client presenting situations, personalities, and levels of ability
•    Experience and commitment to harm reduction
•    Self-directed, organized, and demonstrated supportive team member abilities
•    Commitment to working cooperatively in a community-based setting as part of an interdisciplinary team
•    Certificate in Crisis Prevention and Intervention or willing to be trained.
•    Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination required (including public health recommended boosters)
